Sweetz from Cali Kush Farms

Sweetz from Cali Kush Farms via The Kind Center on 1/12/2021 (shout out to Cali Kush Farms for making it happen!). THC tested out to 30.02%. This was gifted to but regularly goes for less than $50 out the door at The Kind Center. Everything that I’ve had from Cali Kush thus far has been pretty damn awesome so without further ado, let’s get into this batch of Sweetz.

The surface of these hulked out buds is mostly a mix of sage and hunter greens with lime and midnight blue accents that dip into deep aubergine at points, coupled with pumpkin orange pistils, all of which is frosted over in a beautiful blast of white and egg cream colored triches.

The nose out of the jar is a sweet minty must with a touch of grungy fruit and a distant chalk. Busting open a bud that sweet mint amps up, as does the fruitiness, but it leans slightly sweeter as the musty aspect dips off completely. Breaking it down by hand it leaves a light minty pine with a far off dingy herbaceous note on my fingertips as well as a sticky trich grime, whereas the grinds themselves have a dirty sweet fruit quality with a nearly off putting sour note, it’s a sweetness with an earthy zing that almost hits my nose like a toned down freshly chopped ginger root.

The dry pull on the joint comes across with a subtle chalky sweet floral and a vaporous mint that lingers on the lips. The inhale is smooth, and also has a chalky sweet floral with a slightly fresh must underneath on the joint, whereas the bong is more of a light sweet floral with a fruity lean. The exhale is a muted fresh floral must with a minor herbaceous zing on the joint whereas the bong is a very light sweet fruit that hits me sort of like a watermelon flavored Hint water with a minty pine aftertaste. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c it’s a light sweet floral with a strong pine aftertaste whereas at 185c, it’s essentially the same but the pine seems to shift into more of a piney mint giving it an overall fresher taste.

The headchange came on fairly quick but also took some time to fully ramp up. At first, I felt capable and cognizant but in a short amount of time I started to question myself, stumble over my words, my memory recall was absolutely shot, and it became intensely difficult to hold on to thoughts as they would manifest and then mere seconds later would evaporate. While I found myself thoroughly stunted, it’s stranglehold on my cognition did taper off to much more manageable levels about 20 minutes in.  Physically I felt a mild weight throughout my entire body, mostly on the shoulders and upper back, and a slight numbing effect across my forehead and sinuses. There’s also a small dose of feel good energy that had me swaying back and forth and bobbing my head to the beat of the music I had playing in the background as I tried to finish up what I was working on at that moment. Over time that too fades, and while I would tend to save smoking this for the evening, I found myself caught off guard by how sleepy I got seemingly out of nowhere to the point I’d start nodding out on the couch before heading off to bed in a heavy-eyed stupor.

All and all, I dug this batch of Sweetz, it’s got a solid smack that throws you for a hard initial loop, but settles into a warm comfortable buzz that’s excellent for that post work transition period into a relaxing evening. For the fair ticket it goes for at The Kind Center I’d be on board to grab more no doubt. Excellent work once again Cali Kush Farms, y’all are great at what you do, keep these bangers coming!

Z-41 from Cali Kush Farms

Z-41 from Cali Kush Farms via The Kind Center on 1/12/2020 (shout out to Cali Kush Farms for making it happen!). THC tested out to 30.93%. I was gifted this sample but The Kind Center usually has deals and I’d say you could most likely get this for around $45 out the door if not less. Having had an awesome experience with everything from Cali Kush Farms thus far, I was absolutely stoked when they hit me up and told me they had a care package of fresh flower waiting for me at The Kind Center, so I swooped in as soon as I possibly could. These buxom buds appear entirely Space blue with only the smallest of patches being a forest green coming through, accompanied by pale cantaloupe orange pistils, all of which is difficult to discern because the surface is absolutely shrouded in a thick canopy of bright highlighter yellow triches.

The nose out of the jar is a sickly and sugary sweet fruit coupled with a floral musty undertone and some distant freshness. Busting open a bud the sugary sweet fruit amps up a bit as that fresh mint quality makes its way to the foreground. Breaking it down by hand, my fingers are absolutely coated in sticky bits of bud and a floral sweet freshness, while the grinds themselves are essentially that same sweet fruit and bright mint with a vaporous backing that comes off like a fruit version of a Halls lozenge.

The dry pull on the joint is a very sugary sweet minty floral with a bit of candy fruitiness in the background and leaves me with a slightly mentholated lip. The inhale is smooth and is a muted sugar sweet floral on the bong, whereas the joint is essentially the same, but that sugar sweet floral is sharper and more clearly defined. The exhale on the bong is surprisingly a sweet musty cream with a touch of light fruit in the background whereas the joint comes with a sweet fruity floral and a touch of freshness. Cross checking the flavors on my Ghost Vapes MV1, at 170c I get sugar sweet floral and pine with a touch of mint, whereas at 185c the sugar sweet floral remains as the pine falls off a bit with an aftertaste that’s reminiscent of a strange mix of skunky beer and light sugar cookie.

The headchange comes on quick with a hazy headed smack that left me cognitively stunted and has a minorly energetic paranoid edge. Seriously, if your brain is required to be in working order in any capacity then I’d advise avoiding this strain until a time where you have absolutely nothing of consequence to accomplish on your agenda and you’re able to let your mind wander into the depths of outer space. I was able to conceptualize with ease however I could not stay focused no matter how hard I tried, and when talking I’d find myself constantly experiencing that tip of the tongue feeling and having to settle for another word because the one I wanted would simply not manifest in the moment. Physically I felt my eyes lower a touch, as a little weight settled into my shoulders, and a slight tingle made its way down my spine.

All and all I really enjoyed my time with Z-41, it’s a tasty brain crippling smoke that pairs excellently with a cup of coffee on a wake and bake, and works well as an anytime smoke when you’re looking to get mentally obliterated without fear of knocking out prematurely. I’d definitely grab it again if I saw a fresh drop at The Kind Center. Great job on this one CKF, another solid heater, keep up the fantastic work!

GMO from Cali Kush Farms

GMO from Cali Kush Farms via @therealkindcenter on 10/20/2020 (shout out to my dude Cary for making it happen!). THC tested out to 31.79%. This goes for around $50 out the door but check out The Kind Center’s website for specials, they have some killer deals. GMO is one of my favorite flowers when it comes to recent staple strains in California. It smacks in a particular way that sits with me just right, so when the Kind Center budtender pointed it out in my sample pack and was one of his favorites in the bunch, I was absolutely stoked to put this batch through its paces. The surface of these gorgeous spear shaped nugs is a mix of kelly, emerald and lime greens with sporadic rashes of aubergine, coupled with bursts of rusty copper colored pistils, all of which is absolutely flooded over with bright white and cream colored triches.

The nose out of the jar is a savory must with a funky hash twist. Busting open a bud that savory aspect amps up a bit but it’s essentially a louder version of the jar scent. Breaking it down by hand, there’s a stick left on the fingers along with that savory must and a distant hint of mint-pine, while the grinds themselves hit me like an onion heavy tuna salad. I know that’s a bit of a strange description but that’s really the first thing that came to mind, no fish scent, but the salt mayo and onion combo is definitely present and has a piney back end. A dry pull on the joint comes through with that savory floral and a distant semi-sweet mint. The inhale is smooth, and on the joint comes off with a bit of a spicy floral bite, whereas the bong has a muted savory quality with a salty edge. The exhale on the bong is a salty savory floral with an electric lean that reminds me of sticking my tongue on a 9volt battery as a kid, whereas the joint is more of straight savory floral with an acidic funk, and in both cases they had a tendency to punch the septum and make my eyes water. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from GhostVapes, at 170c I get a lightly sweet floral with a touch of mint and pine in the background, whereas at 185c the sweet floral intensifies and the mint falls off some but the pine remains very much present. The headchange came on quick with a formidable stopping power that took me from 100 to 20 mph near immediately. In prep for my recent move I found myself in a constant rushed state of mind, however after I smoked a single bowl of this GMO, the motivational anxiety coursing through my veins just moments before had disappeared almost completely. I found myself kicked back, fully relaxed on the couch, watching a random episode of California’s Gold on YouTube and lamenting Huell Howser being gone all too soon. Before I knew it an hour had passed, and I was heavily invested in Huell’s current adventure, while totally neglecting any sort of progress for my move. I’d say this batch is a motivation sapper but it’s more than that; it’s a motivation wrecking ball. Attempting to get anything of consequence done after smoking this is a pure exercise in will power, one I failed to complete multiple times, although I do admit I did so happily as relaxing somehow becomes the top priority on your agenda as you succumb to the powerful grip of this strain. If you couldn’t tell already, I really enjoyed my time with this jar, and if you’re at all a fan of GMO and can get your hands on it I know you’ll enjoy it too. I may be biased, but it’s an indica that ticks all boxes for me personally, and Cali Kush really knocked this batch out the park. Great job once again Cali Kush, you consistently put out top quality heat which is a rarity in the rec market, keep up the excellent work!

Fibonacci from Cali Kush Farms

Fibonacci from Cali Kush Farms via The Kind Center on 10/20/2020 (shout out to my dude Cary for making it happen!). THC tested out to 31.69%. I was gifted this but it goes for . Huge shoutout up top to Abstrax Labs for reasons that will become clear later in the review. I had heard Fibonacci was a solid banger from a few different folks so I was stoked to see it in my Kind Center sample pack. The surface of these beautiful christmas tree shaped nugs are mostly a deep rich purple that dips into midnight blue with patches of chartreuse and forest green, plentiful pops of pumpkin pie colored pistils, all of which is absolutely flooded with a tsunami of glistening egg cream colored triches.

The nose out the jar is a sweet must overall, but when you give it a deep whiff there’s this echo of a sweet vomit like funk hovering around on the back end. On busting open a bud, a muted sweet cream emerges with a touch of that vomity funk kicking around in the background and just a hint of pastry. Breaking it down by hand you really get a sense for it’s solid density. It leaves a grungy semi-sweet yet savory zest on the fingertips, while the grinds themselves have that sweet vomity funk uptop with this additional cinnamon spice like element that’s hard to pin down, but comes off sort of like a sugar cookie or snickerdoodle when you pull back from it a bit. The dry pull on the joint has a strong semi minty candy sweetness that leaves a bit of a sugar smack on the lip afterward. The inhale on both the bong and the joint is smooth, and comes with a slightly chalky candy sweetness on the former, whereas it’s more of a fresh sweet floral on the latter. On the exhale from the bong I get a bit of a sweet chalky floral with a touch of cream, where the joint comes off as a sugar sweet floral with a distant acidic twist. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes at 170c, I get a sweet candy floral with a minty pine undertone, and at 185c it remains sweet but comes with a chalky lean and a piney floral chaser. Enter the awesome folks at Abstrax Labs. Utilizing advanced chemical techniques far beyond my understanding, they’re able to take small samples of bud and run it through a process that reveals every terpene and aroma compound within it and make it into an easy to read data sheet, which I thought would be fun and informative to compare against my subjective experience with any given strain. While it may not align perfectly with my individual take on the strain, it is interesting to go over the data and see how it matches up with my experience, and maybe give me some better and broader understanding of flavors that are difficult to pin down.

This brings us back to the headchange, which comes on quick with a hazy touch, leaving me feeling slightly weightless and spacy. It depletes any sense of urgency I may have had, and while there are points where I lose the thread, for the most part I feel present and cognitively capable although easily distracted. Physically, while I do feel floaty and get a little bit of that ASMR like tingle at the base of my skull, I have zero motivation to leave my position on the couch and the idea of laying down becomes more enticing with every passing moment. It’s perfectly complementary to a lazy sunday where the only thing I have on the agenda is a few hours with Paper Mario and picking a series to mow through on Hulu. All and all, I really enjoyed my time with this batch of Fibonacci and I could definitely see myself grabbing some more, especially for the ticket it goes for at The Kind Center. Excellent stuff once again Cali Kush Farms, you guys push out some solid heat no doubt, keep up the great work!

Headbanger from Cali Kush Farms

Headbanger from Cali Kush Farms via The Kind Center on 10/20/2020 (shoutout my dude Cary for making it happen). THC tested out to 27.03%. This was gifted to me but I believe goes for $50 out the door or less depending on the deals The Kind Center is running that day. Cali Kush has been on my radar for a long time now, I’ve been told by more than one trusted peer that I needed to get them in the rotation, so I was stoked when I found myself in the area and able to swing by the Kind Center for a fresh batch of flavors. These buds are mostly a dusty pear with splashes of hunter green and near onyx sugar leaves, coupled with cream orange pistils, all of which is coated in a thick frost layer composed of multitudes of both white and goldenrod triches.

The nose of the jar is a semi-fruity candy sweetness with a chalky twist. When busting open a bud, that sweet candy fruit brightens up a bit while also getting louder, and brings with it a brisk minty freshness. Breaking it down by hand a brilliant fresh pine mint with a minor chalky quality is left on the fingertips, while the grinds themselves have a sugary fresh candy vibe accompanied by a present yet vague fruity sweetness, but it’s fairly obscured by the dominance of that pine mint freshness. A dry pull on the joint also matches up with the scent as it has that sweet candy freshness in spades. The inhale is smooth and has a sugar sweet floral on the bong, whereas the joint is essentially the same, but there’s a hint of mint that makes its way forward as well. The exhale is an extremely sweet grape jelly paired with a strong perfume-like floral off the bong, whereas the joint hits more like a sugar sweet mint candy, and surprisingly lacks any semblance of fruit. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I get one of the most intense pine experiences I’ve ever encountered. There’s a minor cooling effect on the way in, but the exhale is so powerful, it left a piney aftertaste on my tongue that I haven’t experienced since getting my mouth washed out with soap as a kid. It left me with a bit of a twisted face just due to the flashback and how overwhelming it was, but I have to admit I was thoroughly impressed by its sheer power. At 185c, it’s still extremely piney but it’s tamped down a bit which allows for a sweet floral to be detected, but the aftertaste remains mostly pine with a touch of mint. The headchange comes on quick and brings some solid energy with it as well as an uplifting smack. It compliments a morning cup of coffee perfectly, it helps wipe the sleep from your eyes, gets you bright eyed and bushy tailed, and puts you in a positive state of mind ready to take on the challenges of the day. It’s the type of herb that murders your apprehension about difficult tasks you’ve been putting off, and before you know it, that thing you’ve been dreading taking care of for the past week is handled and you’re free to move forward to kick ass on the next task. I loved the experience I had with Headbanger as it’s exactly what I look for in a sativa. Truth be told, I had to cut myself off at one point and stop dipping into this batch for my morning ritual as in the end, I barely had enough to finish the review properly because l leaned so hard on it as my go to wake and bake strain. For the ticket it goes for at The Kind Center I’d definitely pick it up again without hesitation. Fantastic job on this one Cali Kush Farms, it’s definitely worthy of joining the ranks of my headstash, and I’m looking forward to tearing through the other offerings I have on deck from your library.

Emperor OG from Cali Kush Farms

Emperor OG from Cali Kush Farms via OG Express on 10/16/19. No testing info available. Purchased 5 grams for $40 on a first time patient deal. Knowing that I’m ever on the hunt new sources of fire, my fellow reviewer @cannicorner (on instagram) recommended OG Express, and I’m really glad he did. The nugs in this batch are huge beautiful light green boulders with dark green lilts that contrast gorgeously with fiery reddish orange pistils that cluster in tight bunches in some spots while stretching out and reaching across the tiny canyons running through the bud in others. All coated in a healthy frosting of triches that feels like sticky crumbs on the fingers once you break the nug down.

The nose out of the bag is a mix of pungent fuel and a delicious citrus backed sweetness. On breaking open the nug I pick up on the same scent but the fuel aspect is ramped up slightly. When breaking it down by hand the smell over all amplifies with that sweet citrus stepping up to the foreground and wrestling with that strong fuel for center stage. The inhale is smooth and I detect that fuel and sweet lemonish taste on both the way in and out. The headchange comes on quick and has a nice thwap up top. I decided to give this a shot as a wake and bake and found myself near instantly spaced out and lost in my thoughts. In the times I was present I experienced a bit of cognitive lock and had a hard time finding the right words or expressions while in conversation. However, as time passed I found myself fully engaged in the game I was playing and not losing focus or having a hard time remembering what I was doing. I was left with a pleasant couch locked feeling without getting heavy eyed and feeling like I needed a nap. That said, when smoking at night, Emporer OG definitely put me straight to bed more than a few times. It’s a fantastic indica, a solid OG that checks all the boxes, and one I’d have no hesitation in visiting again when I’m in the market for a heavier night time smoke. Excellent work to the folks at Cali Kush Farms and OG Express! I’ll definitely be back for more.
