Forbidden Fruit from Amplified Cannabis

Forbidden Fruit from Amplified Cannabis via DabberChan on 8/21/19. THC tested out to 20.10% Total. This was a birthday gift but my guess is this retails for about $50 plus tax. Dabberchan was awesome enough to grab this for me for my bday and I’m glad he did because it’s awesome. This nug is beautiful. The darkness of the surface purples contrasted with the bright orange hairs with occasional bursts of light green, not to mention an ample amount of frost, keep the eyes happily captivated in a world of brilliant color.

The nose of out of the jar is straight oranges, but in that natural fresh from the tree kind of way, it has this musky sort of aspect to it. On breaking the nug you get that orange scent still but it’s accompanied by this earthy note as well. However, when you finger grind a nug down it kicks that orange smell in to high gear and gives it this sweeter juice like smell. It’s extremely pleasant. The nugs have a slightly higher density than popcorn, feel very dry to the touch, and give no sort of finger hash feeling on the digits. The inhale is smooth and on the exhale, as you would guess, I catch the sense of strong citrus. The headchange comes on fairly slow but I wouldn’t call it a creeper, it just doesn’t come on with a thwack. It bops you on the top of your head and feels like it settles in on the top of your eyes. While I don’t feel couchlocked my head is heavy and my eyes are tired. It’s labeled as an indica leaning hybrid but I started saving this one for the very end of the day as I felt like it was a surefire way to put myself to bed. This was an excellent first encounter with Amplified Farms and I look forward to the next. Great work team Amplified!

Heatwave from Greendawg

Heatwave from Greendawg via Connected Santa Ana on 8/17/19. THC tested out to 19.43%. Normally $73 but purchased for $36.50 out the door. When I saw it on the menu at Connected on discount I hopped at the chance to give it a shot and I’m very glad that I did. This nug is absolutely beautiful, I can only hope the pics do it justice. The triches are small but so numerous they stack on each other like dense snow packing deep into every crevice and frosting over every millimeter of surface area. It’s another nug so blasted with triches that it’s difficult to make out the colors beneath but I see some rich purples and light greens with wispy orange hairs struggling to make their way through the snowy berms.

The nose out of the bag is musty with hints of that milky smell that rings through on MAC. On breaking the nug I pick up on a mustiness and further breaking it down by finger I pick up on a muted nutty sweetness that reminds me of Mary Jane’s (the cheap peanut butter Halloween candy that’s one of my favs). It doesn’t really give you that finger hashy feeling but will leave a thick film on your fingers if you handle it too much. The inhale is smooth despite its age and I pick up on a hint of vanilla. On the exhale I get a solid sense of spice. Now, if there were ever an herb to convince you that THC percentages don’t mean much, it’s going to be Heatwave. Testing at 19.43% seems paltry these days in comparison to some of the herb that we are seeing going at 30%+ but Heatwave will absolutely make you take a seat. It doesn’t come at you behind the eyes like you might expect, it feels like it goes straight for the body and leaves you completely slumped. That’s not a figure of speech in this case either, I literally found myself slumped in my computer chair staring at the TV, breaking free only by shaking my head in a cartoonish way to snap out of it. Heatwave is a fantastic name in the sense that it leaves your body drained in the same way being in a heatwave in a stuffy apartment with no air conditioner will. You feel plastered to your seat and while you’re not sleepy you’re tired in a way where you don’t feel like doing much. Great smoke for a night cap after a day of hard physical labor. It gets into you in a way where you’re so relaxed you don’t care about anything except laying there and being at peace. While I can’t say I’d be a repeat buyer at $73, at the discounted rate it’s a phenomenal deal, and anyone that can pick it up at $37 should. If they like what they’ve read here they assuredly won’t be disappointed. Great work to the team at Greendawg!

Glazed Apricot Gelato from The Cure Company

Glazed Apricot Gelato from The Cure Company via New Generation on 8/14/19. THC tested out to 21.23%. Purchased for $50 plus sales tax. I swooped in to New Generation in order to get a great deal, but while I was there, I figured I’d look for something new. The Cure Company had been on my radar for a bit and my only experience so far was a less than stellar pre-roll. I spotted this Glazed Apricot Gelato which was touted as an exclusive as it was grown with Snoop’s Premium Nutrients. The look of the nugs are less than stellar, they have a sort of ratty look to them even though they’re pretty dense, I’m not sure if this is because of the trim but something about them just didn’t hit my eyes properly. That’s probably my main criticism as the rest of the experience was very positive from there.

The nose out of the jar is extremely unique, it’s a mix of spice, mint and hints of sweetness. On breaking the nug, it really amps up the mint and pine aspects, and on the finger grind you get a beautiful mix of pine, mint and spice and hints of sweetness. The inhale is smooth and I catch a muted sweetness. On the exhale I feel I catch a very faint cinnamon taste, but it’s so faint I’m not really sure if I’m imagining it or not. The headchange comes on quick and has a speedy paranoid edge to it. On Weedmaps it says this is a “heavy-hitting indica” but in my experience it’s more of a sativa leaning hybrid. Maybe it’s just this batch but it’s way too racy for my tastes to label it anything Indica and I’ve been leaning on this as my morning smoke without being any worse for wear. It will leave you a little spacey at times but for the most part you can focus on what you need to do and your only distraction may be a paranoid thought like “did I pay that bill?” or “did I lock the door?”. While I’m not a fan of the way it looks, the unique smell and taste, and its surprisingly zippy nature grew on me. While I’m not sure I’d pick it up again at $50, it’s definitely a unique experience, and one you shouldn’t shy away from if you find it a price you feel good with paying.

Phone Home from Pearl Pharma

Phone Home from Pearl Pharma via New Generation on 8/14/19. THC tested out to 20.43%. Purchased for $35 plus sales tax, normally retails for $60. I had been wanting to get my hands on some more Pearl Pharma for a while now so when I saw Phone Home on the menu at New Generation at a steep discount I jumped on it. To be fair, this batch is fairly old as it was packaged on 2/4/19, so I’m assuming that’s why it was about half off the normal ticket. On popping the jar the first thing that catches the eye are the massive triches that give the surface of the bud this yellowed sort of sandy look. The bud itself is a light green made lighter by the golden nature of the triches with only the occasional flashes of dark green. While there are small extremely thin red hairs, they are very few and far between, and manage to camouflage themselves under the coating of triches as well. The buds themselves are not as dense as they appear, being just slightly more dense than a piece of popcorn, and crumbling in a similar way between the fingers.

The nose out of the jar is very savory and hit me similar to a muted version of soy sauce. On the finger grind I still get the same scent but it’s accompanied by a very light sweetness. The inhale is a little harsh on the back of the throat which I’m going to attribute to it’s age. The exhale doesn’t really carry any noticeable flavor, I get maybe just a hint of spiciness but it’s not too pronounced. The headchange is subtle at first, you don’t really notice how spacey you are until you try to do something that requires focus. In conversation I found myself hitting these cognitive snags where I was having trouble coming up with the right words. Even now as I type this I’m sort of second guessing my writing choices and I keep pausing and wondering if this is the right direction for this particular sentence. In that sense it would seem Phone Home is aptly named as it reminds me of ET and frankly I keep spacing out. I would put this in the indica leaning hybrid camp as it feels like it puts some real weight on your body and you may find yourself ready for a weed nap after the initial thump wears off. I’d definitely save this one for the end of day when you’re ready to put your brain away. At $60, I might be a little hesitant to cop this as there’s a lot out there that falls within that range, but at $35 I’d buy a buyer all day. You can tell this is expertly cultivated herb, my only criticism is it’s age and the fact that it smoked a little harsh, but that’s not a knock against Pearl Pharma as the ravages of time are out of their control.

Wedding Cake (sample) from Affordable Four Twenty

Wedding Cake (sample) from Affordable Four Twenty received on 8/14/19. It retails for $40 a quarter, $70 a half ounce or $125 a full. If you like what you see here or on my Purple Punch post then you can find Affordable Four Twenty tonight (8/20) at @loveseshh in Santa Ana. This is definitely another bargain banger! The nose on this comes off as an extremely pungent floral with some gas notes in the background. While these buds aren’t as dense as the Purple Punch they are just as sticky if not more so. Every time I touched a bud or tore it to pack a bowl it left behind a nice residue on the fingers to remember it by. The nugs are an even army green with dark brownish red pistils and a generous coating of triches.

The inhale is smooth and I catch some notes of fuel on the exhale. The headchange has a nice little smack up top and and slowly starts to make its way from the top of your brain to the back of your eyes. Eventually it gives you that heavy feeling that makes you want to tip your head back and rest. You’ll have the ability to maintain focus if needed and won’t get too spacey, but it’s heavy enough that you’ll want to avoid being too physical, and could put you to bed entirely if it’s nearing that time of night. Definitely a good batch to take to the beach and chill if you’re the type to hang on the sand and listen to music. This is a quality buy for the ticket, there’s no recreational spot that can match this quality at that check, and when you’re on a budget herb like this is an absolute miracle. if you’re looking to get the most bang for your buck stop by Affordable Four Twenty’s table tonight at Love Sesh. You’ll definitely find something you like for a ticket you can’t refuse! Great work once again Affordable Four Twenty!

Orange MAC (OM3) from LA Made

Orange MAC (OM3) from LA Made via Peace of Green on 8/9/19. No testing information is on the packaging. Purchased for $45 out the door. If you saw my first impressions video you already know how I feel about the look and smell of this batch of Orange MAC. The pictures do a pretty good job conveying its beauty but it’s a sight to behold in person. It really does make you take a second and say “Woah”. As soon as you look at the nug your attention is being fought for between the millions of shiny triches, the beautiful light and dark purps that make up the meat of the bud, and the fiery orange hairs looking like solar flares arcing off the surface of the sun.

The nose out of the jar is straight oranges, if you were blindfoldeded and asked to ID the smell within 5 second you’d think nothing else but oranges, but as you take your time with the scent it reveals these beautiful light floral and mint notes that linger delicately in the background. On the finger grind, the smell remains essentially the same but kicks it up a notch with the mint notes getting subtly louder. The inhale is smooth and I’m picking up on some spice in the exhale. The headchange comes on fairly quick, and while it doesn’t leave you stunned, you will feel just a bit loopy. You can focus but you may find yourself facing the occasional cognitive hiccup. You can wake and bake on this strain just fine but I’d say it’s best paired with a cup of strong coffee. This is fantastic smoke for getting outdoors or doing some city sight seeing, you’re present enough to enjoy the moment but best not to dive too deeply into any given topic, or you might find your mind wandering to the next shiny object in front of you. If I had to find a criticism of Orange MAC it would be that it lacks staying power and will have you reaching back for another bowl to smoke in 30 or so minutes. That said this is a beautiful MAC cross at an amazing ticket and something I wouldn’t mind keeping in my headstash at all times. Another banger by LA Made , Capulator and the Peace of Green team, awesome work!

Purple Punch (sample) from Affordable Four Twenty

Purple Punch (sample) from Affordable Four Twenty received on 8/14/19. It retails for $40 a quarter, $70 a half ounce or $125 a full. When I first started this page, my initial mission was fairly simplistic, I wanted to help people in So Cal find the best weed they could at the best price. In the spirit of that I’m stoked to write up this Purple Punch from Affordable Four Twenty. The nose leaps out of the jar as soon as you unscrew the lid. It’s this really intense fruity sweetness mixed with hints of pine and must. On the finger grind the sweetness kicks up a notch and is really reminiscent of a grape chewing gum like big league chew. The buds are extremely dense and sticky and definitely give you that finger hashy feeling after handling it. The surface of the nug changes from light to dark green and is absolutely blasted in triches all the way to the core. Dark brown hairs make their appearance occasionally but are few and far between and remain obscured by the generous amounts of frost.

The inhale is smooth and on the exhale I definitely catch notes of that grape-like sweetness. The headchange is a bit of a creeper, it comes on with a racy edge at first but then settles in behind your eyes until it sinks into the rest of your body. I don’t exactly feel couchlocked but I’m definitely not motivated to do much other than veg out and watch TV. I’d save this one for the end of a long day as it’ll gently lift you into a relaxed state until you’re ready to put your head to bed. I really can’t say how impressed I am with the quality of this herb at it’s particular ticket, it really is the definition of the most bang for your buck, and demonstrates how aptly named Affordable Four Twenty is because it’s exactly that. If you can make it out to @loveseshh stop by their table and see for yourself, I guarantee you will not be disappointed in what they have on offer. Excellent work to the team at Affordable Four Twenty!

Rising Sun from Cream of the Crop

Rising Sun from Cream of the Crop via SCSA on 8/7/19. THC tested out to 29.8% and 31.32% cannabinoids total. Purchased for $60 plus sales tax. @thepristinegreen posted a few Cream of the Crop Strains that caught my eye in the passed few months so when I was in need of a new sativa I decided to throw down on this Rising Sun and see what they were all about. To be honest I was hoping to get my hands on their Nepali Pink but they were sold out so I settled on this since it was the most sativa leaning hybrid in stock. You can tell this herb is excellently cultivated, and while it has a good look to it, it’s nothing to really write home about. The surface is mostly a light green with very sparse and extremely light colored bunches of orange hairs and a healthy frosting of triches.

The nose out of the jar comes off as a dirty citrus, like an orange that fell off a tree in your grandma’s backyard and stayed there for a couple days before you picked it up and cut it open just for the smell of it. While it does not finger grind well, it does leave a spicy earthy smell with hints of sweetness, it’s interesting how the sweetness actually becomes more muted on the finger grind. The smoke is smooth and I pick up on a hint of that spicy earth on the exhale. The headchange comes on fast and has a slightly racy edge to it at first, but it quickly tapers off into a heavier yet still functional head high, with the effect eventually falling off all together fairly quickly. I smoked through this 8th disappointingly fast. You’ll definitely have no issue focusing and staying on task with this strain but it’s just a little heavier than I’d like for a wake and bake. It was not being pushed as a pure sativa though, but more as a slightly sativa leaning hybrid, so that does fall in line with my expectation. While I feel like this is a pretty good quality herb with favorable effects, $60 really seems out of line with the experience. When you approach Lumpy’s territory you really need to offer something of similar quality to match and, simply put, this ain’t it. I’d definitely be a repeat buyer for this strain at around $40-45 out the door. Sorry Cream of the Crop, I liked it, just not enough to justify that price point.
