Clockwork Elves (sativa variant) from 3C Farms

Clockwork Elves (sativa variant) from 3C Farms via OG Cannabis Cafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 33.27%. Not going to mention what I picked it up for here so the post doesn’t get deleted but hit the link in my bio for a 100% uncensored review. Moonrocks have always been one of those things that seem awesome in theory but in common practice have become a way to peddle garbage weed soaked in subpar oil covered in green plant dust. So when Red showed me a nug of Clockwork Elves for the first time at the Cannabis Cafe I was so blown away by its appearance that it took me a full minute to understand what I was even looking at. These nugs are essentially big blonde boulders comprised of a fresh sticky bud core that’s inundated with a golden dry sift to the point that it clumps and clings to the bud to form a colossal kief cocoon.

The nose out of the jar in this particular case was “the jackiest jack” according to my notes. It’s the beautiful floral potpourri with zesty spice rack twist that screams Jack Herer (or in this case Jack Kraken) to anyone who’s familiar with the strain. When you break open a bud you see exactly how thick the blanket of kief is as mini avalanches careen off the edges of the bud and all over anything that happens to be below it. The scent remains mostly the same as it’s jack through and through. When broken down by hand it leaves a heavily floral yet sweet and minty smell on the fingers while the grinds have a deep rich jack quality that’s so intense it hits the nose like a strong perfume. The dry pull on the jay has a heavily floral taste with a bit of sweet gas on the tail end that lingers on the tongue for just a moment. The inhale is smooth and offers a subtle floral gas on the joint while the bong leans more earthy in tone. The exhale is a strong gassy perfume off the joint while off the bong it’s a less intense flavor but still floral with a minor spice in the background that tickles the septum ever so slightly. The headchange hits quickly with an energetic clear headed smack. I was able to stay motivated, focused, and on task without issue which is exactly what I look for in a sativa. This is perfect wake and bake smoke, and something I’d be happy to smoke at any point of day frankly, unless I’m trying to get to bed. I’m really impressed with this batch of Clockwork Elves and the concept as a whole. It’s a very unique and clean way to amp up your bud and for the ticket it goes for at Coast to Coast in the Valley I’m absolutely going to pick some up again. Awesome job by all the folks at 3C Farms, keep up the great work!

Domo G from THC Design

Domo G from THC Design on 2/20/2020. THC tested out to 22.57%. This was gifted to me but I have seen it go for $40 in a shop. Being a fan of THC Design, when I noticed they’d released a strain in partnership with rapper Domo Genesis, my curiosity was admittedly piqued so I was stoked to get my hands on some. These bulbous semi-dense nugs are an eye pleasing patchwork of bright lime and dark forest greens with splashes of deep aubergine, cheddar cheese orange pistils, and an army of spiky white triches that line the surface of the bud like those spike strips that keep birds from landing on building ledges.

The nose out of the jar is a musty fruit that I refer to as that “foreign fruit market smell” accompanied by a minty freshness in the background. On busting open the bud the smell remains largely the same although the mint gets slightly louder. When breaking it down by hand you get a nice stick on the fingers and it unleashes this delicious smell that comes off like a fruit salad with strawberry, banana and all the melons, enhanced further by the mint giving everything a pleasantly fresh lilt. A dry pull on the jay has a sweet sugar candy taste with a fruity twist. The inhale is smooth and has a sugary smack with a woody undertone on the joint while the bong offers a floral earthy experience with a touch of freshness. The exhale is a sweet floral sugar on the joint while the bong offers the sugary sweetness up top with a floral finish. When it comes to cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I decided to change things up a little due to a chart that Ghost Vapes shared with me regarding terps and temps. I first tried it at 200c which gave a minor pine taste a floral mint and a hint of sweetness. I then loaded a fresh pod and vaped it at 170c which really intensified the pine and floral tastes to a surprising degree. I’ll definitely try to incorporate vaping at different temperatures into my reviews going forward as to give a more thorough report on the flavor. The headchange comes on quick but it doesn’t slap so much as it does smash and then continue to keep on the pressure. I started to feel the weight in my body as time started to slow, I got a bit of that walking underwater feeling, and things that may have seemed an immediate concern were now not as important and may have slipped my mind entirely. Any anxiety and frantic energy were quickly dismissed. I didn’t feel couch locked but I also didn’t feel motivated to do much other than kick back, watch youtube videos on random, and let my mind wander on its own time. It’s one of those strains that obliterates stress and anxiety which makes it a perfect companion to the strange times we’re living through. While I’d say it’s too heavy for a wake and bake, it’s a good strain for any time you need to get some calm perspective on your troubles, or just be able to put them out of mind completely and relax. I enjoyed my time with Domo G and for the ticket I’ve seen it go for in shops I could definitely see myself picking it up again. Excellent job to the team at THC Design, keep up the great work!

Purple Punch from Curated Cannabis

Purple Punch from Curated Cannabis on 2/24/2020. THC tested out to 16.08%. This was gifted to me but normally retails for $300 an ounce on special at the Spot in Santa Ana. A few years back in the pre prop 64 days, I remember coming across Curated Cannabis when they were working the sesh scene and being extremely curious about their cryo cured herb, so I was hella excited when they reached out and offered me a tour of their facilities here in Santa Ana. I have to admit I am extremely impressed by the look of these fresh frozen nugs. While it’s true that Purple Punch is notorious for its bag appeal this is still, by far, the most gorgeous Purple Punch I’ve ever come across. These big beautiful whole buds are perfectly preserved in large glass jars and look like a trimmed up version of their living counterparts. The surface is a wintry lime green with deep purple accents that look like garlands rounding a Christmas tree, accompanied by scattered fireplace orange pistils and a blanket of triches so thick, it resembles a the beginnings of a healthy mountainside snowpack at the start of of winter.

The nose out of the jar is a sugary sweet cream with a helping of berry chutney and a mildly musty back end. When breaking open a bud that sweet berry cream gets louder while pushing that mustiness even further back. When breaking if down by hand the sugar sweet quality remains while a plain cereal scent jumps in to the mix as well as a bit of a savory aspect hanging around in the background. The sensation of finger grinding this particular batch is unique but not entirely alien, it’s very similar to how any fluffy herb breaks down, but has an airy trait where I did find myself packing the joints and bowls a little thicker than usual. I added a breakdown video for anyone who’s curious as to how it looks when prepped without a grinder. A dry pull on the joint has that sweet cereal attribute with a floral back end. The inhale is smooth and on the joint I get a floral tang where it’s more of an earthy floral experience on the bong. The exhale on the joint has a tiny floral kick, but is mostly nondescript where as on the bong, it’s a bit more defined but I’d still describe it as a muted sweet floral experience. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a heavily floral and fresh taste with some sugar sweetness making itself known in the background. The headchange is as to be expected with purple punch in my experience. It’s sedative and tends to creep over time but lacks a satisfying cerebral smack that you would expect when judging it on looks alone. Due to this, I feel like Purple Punch has a lot of detractors but there are people who are fans of the strain, my girlfriend being one of them. She absolutely loved this cut of Purple Punch and if you’re a fan as well then I believe you’ll be extremely pleased with the Curated Cannabis cryo cured version of it. Personal preference on Purple Punch aside it’s obvious the folks at Curated are extremely passionate about Cannabis, preserving it in its most prime and pristine state, which is a truly unique experience for a majority of recreational consumers. Props to all the folks down at Curated Cannabis for the excellent work!

Bugsy from The Backpack Boyz

Bugsy from The Backpack Boyz and 5points LA via The Cannon Co on 2/11/2020. No Testing info presented on the bag. This bag was gifted to me but I have seen an 8th go for $40-50 out the door at Seshes. Bugsy has been on my watchlist for quite some time now so I was stoked to see it in my sample pack. These extremely dense nugs are a gorgeous mix of fluorescent lime greens with deep rich purples that highlight the contours of the bud similar to the way trim color can accent the architecture of a building. Creamy burnt orange pistils coupled with an impressive coating of yellowish white triches, stacked on each other in every available crevice like snow drifts against abandoned buildings in the dead of winter, give the bud as a whole an inviting fuzzy glow.

The nose out of the bag is a sugar sweet cream with a subtle mint and just a touch of fruit. Busting open the bud the minty amps up slightly to match with the sweet cream and reveals a mustiness in the background. Breaking it down by hand the scent of mint becomes overwhelming while that sugar sweet cream fights to be noticed in the background but the mint absolutely dominates the arena. When dry pulling the J there’s a delicious sweet mint that lingers on the lips with a floral quality that fills out the background with a wisp of fruit. The inhale is smooth and on the joint I picked up on a minty hash quality, while the bong offered more of an earthy floral taste, with a hint of mint in the background. The exhale off the joint and the bong both served up a sweet minty cream with a fairly long lasting mentholated aftertaste. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial mint remains the dominant force with that floral sensation padding out the background. The headchange comes on quickly and has a really enjoyable thwap to it. It smacks you in the forehead and radiates behind your eyes and down into your body. While it doesn’t couch lock you up exactly, and you can maintain a conversation and stay focused if need be, it does have that motivation sapping/soul settling aspect that’s fantastic for when you’re trying to wind down after a long day. In the end, I think Bugsy is a great afternoon / evening smoke and for the ticket I’ve seen it available for in the sesh scene, I’d have no problem picking it up again. Great job once again to the Backpack Boyz/5 Points LA and the Cannon Co. Keep cranking out these hits!

Gummy Gas from Norcal Nemo

Gummy Gas from the one and only Norcal Nemo on 2/28/2020. Shoutout to mr.don_fuego for the assist and Gulf Coast Haze Collective for always scouting the most supreme firepower Cali has to offer! THC info not available at this time. This was gifted to me but I have heard a variety of prices on it as it’s so rare. Essentially this is IYKYK status but if you can find it you will pay handsomely for it. When Nemo told me he was sending me a couple of his newest creations to try I was ecstatic. Guava Gas is, no bullshit, some of the best herb I’ve ever smoked so I was stoked to be part of the beta test on these latest very limited releases. These big dense spiky buds are extremely easy on the eyes and sticky to the touch. The majority of the surface is a bright tennis ball green that slides into forest greens on occasion with twine colored pistils outlined in a hazy while glow by a proliferous blanket of shimmering triches.

The nose out of the jar is a rich fruit candy sweetness with a fuel back end that is very reminiscent of a new bag of Haribo Bears coupled with smell of freshly spilt gasoline. On breaking open a bud the fuel jumps to the foreground and brings some mint with it as it pushes that sweet candy fruit smell back just a bit. When grinding it down by hand the sugar candy sweetness rages back to the forefront and smells like fresh red jello with a touch of mint and fuel in the background. It’s the type of herb that smells so good it puts a smile on your face and makes you want to eat it. The dry pull on the joint comes with a deep fruity sugar and a fresh gassy edge that hangs around on the tongue for a few moments. The inhale is smooth, and off the joint I get a deep floral gas with mint, while the bong offers the same strong gassiness coupled with more of a sugar sweet kick. The exhale from the j is mostly floral with a sweet and fresh sensation that lingers momentarily and hits me like a muted version of the mint in a New York Peppermint Patty that then melts into a gummy sweetness. It’s a very complex flavor experience. The bong offers a delicious floral gas that tickles the septum with a sweet candy edge where the sugar sweetness ends up bleeding over into the aftertaste. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a sense of that rich fuel on the way in with that sweet candy gas coming into full effect on the way out. The headchange smacks immediately and with utmost authority. I don’t mean to be unoriginal and cliche but “it hit different”. Smoking a small J had me absolutely wrecked in the best way. I woke up the next morning with only the haziest of recollections as to what had happened the night before, post-smoke. I found that even when smoking small bowls from the bong, my brain seemed to move a million miles an hour through a universe of relevant thoughts while simultaneously being spaced out to the point where when I did manage to snap back to reality, I had to take a few seconds to reorient myself and get back on task. It has a strong hazy effect that hits you behind the eyes, wraps itself around your frontal lobe, and settles into the top of your shoulders. I absolutely loved this batch of Gummy Gas and I can only hope the next batch that comes down the line is much bigger so more people have the opportunity to try it. It’s a fantastic smoke that I would not hesitate to light up at any opportunity. Absolutely phenomenal job @norcalnemo, you are working a special kind of magic with these plants, it’s an honor and privilege to bear witness to the fruits of your hard work.

Topanga Canyon OG from the Jungle Boys

Topanga Canyon OG from the Jungle Boys via Los Angeles Farmers on 2/04/2020. THC tested out to 25.33%. Purchased for $25 out the door. I’ve heard good things about Topanga Canyon so when I saw that Farmers had it on the low shelf I was absolutely on board to give it a whirl. The nugs in this particular bag appear small and shrub like. They’re a mix of lime and forest greens with tiny pops of brownish red pistils and a frosting of golden yellow triches that give the surface a slight glow and make the coloring hard to pin down.

The nose out of the bag is an extremely pleasant mix of fuel and lemon that gives me muted eucalyptus vibes. On busting open a nug a mint emerges, joining the fuel in the foreground and leaving the lemon to battle for dominance, shifting into more of a lemon cleaner scent. When breaking it down by hand, I get a delicious smelling lemon candy fuel that hits me as a mash up of Vic’s vapor rub and lemon hard candy. The inhale is smooth, and from the j I get an earthy sweet lemon experience, as where the bong offers more of that fuel aspect up top. On the exhale from both I got a tongue smacking sweet lemon fuel with a lemon water aftertaste but on the bong there was just a little less sugar sweetness and you feel it the septum. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial the sweet lemon fuel is so strong that it tangs the tongue on the way in as well as leaving a fairly long aftertaste. It reminded me a lot of the taste experience I had with Marathon OG from @thecurecompany. The headchange comes on fast with a nice thwack and a brings a bit of energy with it. There’s a touch of haziness that hits behind the eyes and has a bit of a spacey quality that puts some distance between you and your cares. While functional conversationally I found focusing somewhat problematic. It didn’t derail my train of thought so much as grease the track making it difficult to gain traction and progress forward. Even that sentence was difficult to put together coherently when in its brain fogging grasp. That one too. Essentially, you’ll want to avoid smoking it when writing under a deadline, but for most activities it’s pretty awesome. I really liked Topanga Canyon OG, I think it’s a great anytime smoke with a healthy long lasting smack that leaves you dazed in an enjoyable way, and it’s pretty tasty to boot. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this flower being harvested back in August of 2019, but it really held up well, and for the ticket I’d have to say I’d pick this up again in a heartbeat. Great work to the Jungle Boys on this one!

Kimbo Kush from 710 Labs

Kimbo Kush from 710 Labs via Los Angeles Farmers on 2/04/2020. THC tested out to 17.84%. Purchased by my girlfriend for $46 out the door. The Valentine’s day gift flowers continue! As there were only two strains of 710 Labs flower on deck at Farmers my awesome lady figured we might as well cop them both and see what they’re all about. These dense nugs are extremely photogenic making it easy to snap some great pics. The buds are small yet bulbous. The surface is mix of forest and lime greens with rashes of purple coupled with flares of wild and wiry reddish brown pistils and a formidable fortified layer of golden glistering triches.

The nose out of the jar has a deep earthy spice with a musty backend. Busting open a bud amps up that earthy spiciness but also brings a sugar sweetness into the picture with just a hint of a fruity element. Breaking it down by hand reveals an interesting turn as I get more a sugar sweetness coupled with a dingy waxy element that really strikes me as very similar to the smell of a chocolate tootsie roll. The dry pull of the j also had a sweet waxy musty quality that gave me those same chocolate tootsie roll vibes and had a sugar sweet zing of an aftertaste that lingered on the tongue momentarily. The inhale is smooth and on the bong also has muted echos of that tootsie roll flavor, while on the joint, it was more of a subtle sugar sweet floral with a hint of mint. The exhale from both the j and bong were an understated savory yet earthy spice. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I do pick up on a hint of that chocolate along with a floral sensation up top that shifts into more of a fresh mint on the exhale. The headchange does come on quick but is very gentle in its nature. It rings your bell slightly and gives you that floaty headed feeling coupled with a mild headband effect while putting a bit of pressure on your shoulders and upper back. It’s a very functional effect, you can have a conversation and not lose your place or space out, as well as dig in to any critical thinking task at hand. It’s a very capable buzz that pairs well with an afternoon of responsibility as it has a pleasant effect that won’t leave you smashed into the couch or helplessly lost in your own thoughts. While I’m always on the hunt for new cultivars to review, for the ticket my girlfriend picked this up for at Farmers, I could see myself easily doing it again if I were specifically in the mood for a mild afternoon/early evening smoke. Great job to the folks at 710 Labs for putting out some high quality and truly beautiful flower.

Black Cherry Gelato from The Backpack Boyz

Black Cherry Gelato from The Backpack Boyz and 5points LA via The Cannon Co on 2/11/2020. No Testing info presented on the bag. This was gifted to me but I have seen it on a few menus for $40-50 out the door. A few people on my radar had said positive things about Black Cherry Gelato so I was extra stoked to see it was one of the bags in my sample pack. The surface of these intensely dense nugs flips back and forth between dark forest greens and deep rich purples with sporadic tightly coiled fiery orange pistils and a near even coating of tiny glistening triches.

The smell out of the bag is a this musty sweet fruit scent that I get from a majority of good gelato which I’ve come to call “that foreign fruit market smell” with hints of citrus and a wisp of cherry slurpee. When breaking open a bud the same scent was still present but louder and had a minor fresh edge to it. When breaking it down by hand my nose was smacked with a lemon cream at first that widened out to a more general cream and fruit scent but the lemon remained strong and ever present. The dry pull from the j was sugar sweet and floral with a little fruit and menthol in the background. The inhale was smooth and from the joint I got a muted sweet cereal but on the bong it was a general earthy vibe. On the exhale from the j I picked up on a sweet floral taste with just a bit of mint in the background while the bong really did have a faint yet surprising black cherry slurpee/carbonated water sensation to it. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I picked up on a sugar sweet floral sensation with a little mint in the back which was reminiscent of the joint but stronger in taste. The headchange comes on fast, thwaps with authority, and will ground you if you allow it. When I smoked my first J I got about 3/4s through and had that “wow, I’m pretty lit” feeling and left the rest of it behind for later. It hits you behind the eyes and puts that pressure on your forehead where the power of couch compels you. It’ll sap you of motivation and you won’t care because you’re buzzed in the way where nothing matters except for right now and you’re feeling pretty good about chilling in this particular moment. I would say this one should be saved for a post work smoke but it does serve well as a wake and bake if you have a strong cup of coffee to aid you. If you have some mindless manual labor to slog through, you can smoke this, throw on some music and before you know it you’ll be done and you had a great time doing it. All and all I really liked Black Cherry Gelato, it’s got a healthy long lasting slap that might stick you right to the couch, but you’ll definitely enjoy every moment of it. Great work to the Backpack Boyz, 5 Points LA, and everyone else involved!

Bluniverse from 710 Labs

Bluniverse from 710 Labs via Los Angeles Farmers on 2/04/2020. THC tested out to 16.15%. Purchased for $46 out the door. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some 710 Labs flower for a while now but the low availability and high ticket have made it difficult to acquire in the past. My awesome girlfriend decided to surprise me when we stopped into LA Farmers by hooking me up with this Bluniverse as an early valentines day gift. These nugs are near breathtakingly beautiful. The coloring shifts from a light lime green that cascades into shades of deep purple, it appears a dark azure blue with the help of a healthy layer of white glistening triches, all contrasted against creamy candlelight orange pistils. It’s the kind of midnight blue you find in the sky on a clear day right after the sun has completely set.

The nose out of the jar is mostly musty with a hint of sweetness and gas. On busting open a nug I get a touch of some sweet fruity notes that seem to push the mustiness back with just a tad of that electric 9-volt on your tongue edge. When grinding it down by hand I pick up on a deep fruity berry-like scent battling that electric musty quality for dominance. On the inhale from both the bong and the joint I get a bit of light grungy must coupled with a muted sugar sweetness. On the exhale from the joint I get mostly that musty quality with a 9 volt after taste, it was fairly vague and hard to pin down, and was a little bit harsh on the throat as it was nearing its end. The bong didn’t offer much else in terms of flavor but I noticed it did hit me in the septum and make me slightly watery eyed. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a very minor floral taste with just a hint of mint but fairly muted and nondescript overall. The headchange hits quickly but comes on mild at first and ramps up overtime. It’s reasonably middle of the road in terms of effects, it doesn’t bring any sort of energy with it, but doesn’t hold you back from completing any tasks you might have on deck either. The one constant I noticed was that I’d space out fairly frequently as the effect was gaining traction but it didn’t stick around too long, and left me feeling sort of meh, generally speaking. For me it’s one of those highs where it’s just kind of there, it’s doing it’s job but there’s nothing unique about it, it feels very perfunctory in that sense. I have no previous experience with Bluinverse so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but if this is typical of it’s effects, it’s not really a strain I care to revisit. It’s clearly skillfully cultivated, and some of the most photogenic herb I’ve ever come across but even at the very fair ticket at which I copped it, with the incredible amount of variety on the California marketplace these days I just don’t see myself doing it again.

Tropical Guava #36 from Poseidon Estate

Tropical Guava #36 from Poseidon Estate on 2/08/2020. THC tested out to 25.77%. This was gifted to me but my understanding it goes for around $60 out the door. Another awesome gift from the God of the Seas made its way to my hands here in Southern California and I’m stoked to get into it. These delicate buds are comprised of mostly lime and forest greens with the occasional flash of purple, a smattering of dark amber pistils, and a healthy amount of snow and pineapple colored trichomes.

The nose out of the jar is a sweet fruit with just a bit of mustiness in the background that strikes me as smelling very similar to a Dragonfruit Hi-Chew. On busting open a nug that sweet fruit gets a little louder and has a slightly minty edge. When breaking it down by hand, the grinds really amp up that candy fruity sweetness, and it really affirms my earlier description as it smells near exactly like opening up a fresh pack of Hi-Chews. The dry pull on the J also reveals a similar sugar sweet fruit taste but it dissipates quickly. The inhale is smooth on the joint and I get just a touch of toasted marshmallow while on the bong I get a really minor sense of sweet fruit. On the exhale from the bong and joint I get a mostly an earthy sensation with a muted sweet fruit follow up. Crosschecking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a very sweet floral taste with just a bit of mint on the side. The headchange hits near immediately and with authority. My eyes felt hazy and I had to fight hard against the weight as it settled into my body, arrested my thoughts, and tried to bind me to the couch. While I was able to get to the gym after a wake and bake, I quickly moved this one to my preferred pre-bedtime smoke so instead of having to fight it, I could let that pleasant pressure press me into the mattress and off to a sound night’s sleep. If I were in need of a night cap type herb and this were available in my area I’d definitely be on board to grab some more. This was another fantastic example of well cultivated and cared for flower from Poseidon Estate, they do some awesome work, and I can only hope they’ll get wider distribution soon so more people can get in on what they have on offer. Great work!
