Trifi Cookies from Elyon

Trifi Cookies from Elyon via Secret Sesh on 12/07/19. THC tested out to 23.84%. Sold for $25 total at Secret Sesh. When I stopped by the Elyon booth, these Trifi Cookies really got my attention with the way they caught the sunlight, so I was stoked to come home with some. These dense buds are mostly a bright lime green with deep purple lilts and dark rusty red pistils with a thick eye popping layer of triches that glimmer even in the dimmest of light.

The nose out of the jar is a combo of nutmeg and cinnamon with dough and a bit of must in the background. It smells a bit like a day old apple fritter. Busting open the nug I get more of a cinnamon breakfast cereal smell that reminds me of Apple Jacks. Breaking it down by hand you notice how sticky and dense the bud is, I actually had to resort to ripping it up as opposed to grinding it between my fingers as it offered just a bit too much resistance. The grounds give off a combo of mint and musty dough with that spice being pushed to the background along with what smells like a slight touch of artificial watermelon. On the dry pull of the jay I get a sweet natural flavor that reminded me of sucking on the bottom of a purple honeysuckle flower when I was a kid. I didn’t detect much flavor on the inhale but it was smooth. On the exhale I picked up on a really pleasant floral and perfume like aftertaste. Cross checking the flavor on the @ghostvapesofficial MV1 I noticed the inhale had a very muted earthy and spicy inhale while the exhale remained similar yet more pronounced. The headchange comes on quick and is middle of the road but leans slightly heavy. A haze sets in behind the eyes, in the neck, and on top of the head that makes it really pleasant to just throw your head back and close your eyes while sitting on the couch. Physical heaviness aside, while I feel that slap I remain clear headed, able to focus, and my ability to think remains intact. This would be a solid herb to have on deck for afternoon and evening use when you’re looking to chill and watch some TV or finish up some work on the computer. I could see myself picking it up again depending on the rate, but definitely at the bargain ticket Elyon had for at Secret Sesh. Excellent work on this one Elyon!

Pink Picasso from Wonderbrett

Pink Picasso from Wonderbrett via Secret Sesh on 12/07/19. THC tested out to 25.57%. Purchased 14 grams for $100. When I started my Secret Sesh shopping spree my first stop was the Wonderbrett booth and they really made it challenging to hold on to my money as the ticket they were offering was nearly unheard of in the recreational market for this level of quality. While the bag is labeled “smalls” the nugs looked pretty much exactly the same size as what you’d come across in any given top shelf jar at any given shop. These semi dense buds have an intense camouflage pattern of light and dark greens coupled with rich deep purples and sporadic bunches of burnt orange pistils all iced over with a healthy layer of yellowing triches.

The nose out of the jar has elements of a sweet fruit with a minty eucalyptus like zing that smells like a combo of skittles and mentos smashed together. On busting open a nug the sweet fruit smell gets a bit more pronounced but remains essentially the same. When breaking the nug down by hand that eucalyptus zing shifts into a strong mint accompanied with a sugar sweetness but strangely I don’t pick up on any fruit scent at all anymore. When taking a dry pull on the j I pick up on a breakfast cereal like sweetness at first that reminds me Golden Crisp followed by a near cloyingly sweet candy-like fruitiness. The inhale is smooth and I detect a sugar syrup like sweetness while on the exhale I get mint with a sweet and slightly fruity backend. I cross checked the flavor on the MV1 gifted to me by @ghostvapesofficial and the mint really shined through pushing that sugary fruity sweetness to the background. The headchange has a nice smack and is fairly middle of the road but has a weight to it that can leave you feeling a little sedated. At first I thought I’d lean on this as a wake and bake strain because of the fruity smell it put out but I found myself succumbing to the pressure an hour or so after smoking and wanting to just chill on the couch and take a nap. I’d say this is a strain better suited to a chill evening at home. It doesn’t have such a thwack that it debilitates you immediately but given time it will put you to bed if you’re tired and ready to end your night. For the ticket I copped this at I’d do it again in a heartbeat, however at the rate you typically might find this for in a shop, I might be a little hesitant depending on what else is available. That said, great job to the team at Wonderbrett on this one, hopefully discounted smalls will be something you can make available to the masses one day as they are a definite hit with me!

Daniel Larusso Cannon (sample) from Ball Family Farms and The Cannon Co.

Daniel Larusso Cannon (sample) from Ball Family Farms and The Cannon Co. I have been wanting to get my hands on a Cannon for a while now and when I saw they put one together with one of my favorite strains of the year, Daniel Larusso, I made a Christmas wish that it would show up in my stocking. While that didn’t exactly happen, the cool folks at Ball Family Farms were kind enough to grant my wish, so I thought I’d do a quick write up on my first Cannon experience. This particular cannon was comprised of 1.3g of Daniel Larusso with Lemon Cherry Gelato Sugar corkscrewed on the paper around the core.

The scent from the outside had a deep gas with a rubber back end that reminded me of the way good old school hash would smell. On the dry pull I picked up a on delicious sweet lemon fuel taste that left a minty sensation on the lips. On lighting the J I immediately recognized that signature earthy hash like taste that made me say “Yup, that’s the Larusso!” out loud to myself. It smoked smooth, flavorful, and even all the way down to the glass tip. By the time I was half way through the cannon I was already being yelled at to sweep the leg as I was losing the battle. By the end I was crane kicked right in the brain and back into the couch, ready to watch a movie and call it a night. I really enjoyed this first flight with the Cannon Co. I’m sure the material used plays a big part of having a positive experience but if this sample is on par with the quality of product they put our regularly then their excellent reputation is definitely well deserved. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on another Cannon when the opportunity presents itself. Excellent work to the folks at the Cannon Co and thank you once again to the folks at Ball Family Farms for the chance to give it a try and for always putting out that solid heat!

Marathon OG from The Cure Company

Marathon OG from The Cure Company via Super Clinik on 12/04/19. THC tested out to 25.56%. Purchased for $25 plus tax on a first time patient deal. Price is normally $50 plus tax. The Cure Company has been on my radar for a while now and after having great experience with their Apricot Gelato, I was curious about their flagship strain, Marathon OG. The surface of these semi dense buds are mostly comprised of a bright lime green with forest green accents and creamy orange pistils all doused in a generous layer of yellowish-white triches.

The nose out of the jar hits me as a classic OG scent crossed with lemonade. It’s primarily fuel but the sweet citrus notes are very loud and steal focus as a musty scent fills out the background. When busting open a bud, a sweet candy gas takes center stage and pushes that citrus to the back, as it’s joined by just a hint of mint. Breaking the nug down by hand amps the citrus back up to equal levels with that sweet fuel creating a lemon candy gas with that mint still kicking around in the background. It also leaves a nice stickiness on the tips of your fingers. The dry pull of the jay really reminds me of Zkittles in the sense that it has a citrus candy taste but it leans more orange as opposed to lemon lime. It hits me sort of like an orange flavored vitamin C chewable. The inhale is smooth and I pick up on a sweet candy taste with a bit of fuel while on the exhale it has that same sweet gas but leaves a pleasant acidic lemon rind after taste on the tongue. I was lucky enough to be gifted an MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial and decided to take a test flight with the Marathon OG. The experience really solidified my thoughts on the flavor as I got a surprising and extremely powerful lemon fuel tang on my first draw. The headchange has a nice smack but leaves you able to think and focus without issue. Initially I felt floaty without feeling spacey, there’s a pressure that builds behind the eyes and in the forehead, but that haziness doesn’t interfere with your thought process like it often can. Over time there is a heaviness that sets in and you won’t feel like doing much more than kicking back and watching some TV. I’d say this is a great OG to start and/or end and evening with. For the ticket I was lucky enough to cop this for I would pick it up again all day. However, at the normal rate I might be slightly hesitant depending on what else is on offer, but Marathon OG would definitely be a worthy contender for my top shelf dollar. Great job to the team at The Cure Company, you are doing excellent work and I really can’t wait to get my hands on more of what you’re putting out there. (Sweet Thang definitely has my attention).

Nova Cane from Team Elite Genetics

Nova Cane from Team Elite Genetics via Super Clinik on 12/04/19. THC tested out to 25.5%. Purchased for $55 plus tax. I’d been hearing great things about Nova Cane from my reviewer friends so when I saw it was in stock at Super Clinik here in Santa Ana I decided to jump in.

These nugs are stunning and it’s evident that nothing but the utmost care and highest standards were kept into order to bring this jar to the consumer market. These dense foxtail like buds are a light lime green with dark forest green accents and reddish brown pistils all coated in a radiant frosting of glittering triches that intensely shine back at you as they catch the light. The nose out of the jar is straight Jack Herer. That signature sweet floral potpourri smell dominates the nostrils. The nug breaks with a hearty and satisfying snap and that floral sweetness ramps up and brings with it a sweet berry quality along with just a hint of a lemon cleaner like smell. Grinding the nug down by hand leaves a healthy stickiness on your finger tips, so much so that I kept finding myself wiping them off on my pants so that I wouldn’t gunk up my keyboard or phone screen when taking notes. The grounds smell like sweet berry with that floral jackness taking a back seat with a touch of citrus sitting beside it. On the dry pull of the J the berry sweetness is undeniable and is so sweet that it reminds me of the way pineapple hits my taste buds. The inhale is smooth and detect just a bit of that sweet fruit while on the exhale I get a sweet berry flavor with what I might consider a minor sour edge. It’s not as acidic as a sour gummy in my opinion but that citrus does give the flavor as a whole a slightly sour lean. The headchange comes on quick and has a racy edge while at the same time having a good smack and some impressive stamina. I found myself able to focus and wanted to keep my body occupied. Before I knew it I was up and knocking things off my to do list. However, after the initial burst of energy I took a seat and then I felt myself peter out slightly. I went from unable to sit still to just wanting to kick back and watch some TV for a few. That was short lived though as the energy seemed to return and I was back on my feet looking to defeat the next task at hand. I really enjoyed Nova Cane and I can completely understand why it’s a Cannabis Cup Winner. It’s straight up beautiful, smells like the best Jack around, and has a strong clear headed long lasting enjoyable effect that’s frankly perfect for any time of day. Fantastic job to Team Elite Genetics, the quality of your work is definitely on par with some of the best and well known growers in California, and I’d say it’s well worth the ticket it commands.

Gushers from Big Al’s Exotics

Gushers from Big Al’s Exotics via Gulf Coast Haze Collective on 11/26/19. No Testing info listed on the bag. Acquired for a donation of $45. When Prop 64 went into law, one of the first strains I naively tried to order from a Bay Area delivery service was Big Al’s Gushers due to the hype I saw on instagram at the time, so I was stoked to finally get my hands on some. These super dense buds run the gamut on the entire color spectrum. Deep raisin purples transition to pickle greens chased by even lighter shades of shamrock green, all accompanied by beautiful bursts of fiery orange pistils, heavily coated in large dewy looking triches.

The nose out of the bag hits me as primarily mint and sugar sweetness with bit of a fruity edge. On breaking open the nug, the mint takes it up a notch and gives me that sort eucalyptus essential oil vibe, with that sugar sweetness taking a back seat. When breaking down by hand you really get a sense for how sticky this batch is. After breaking it up my fingers were completely resinated to the point they would stick to each other when touching. The grinds had a deep mint and pine scent that was like a pleasant mix of Listerine and Pinesol poured together in the same bottle. The inhale is smooth, and I pick up on a touch of sweet and floral on the way in, while I get a mild minty earthiness on the way out. The headchange has a really nice immediate thwap but it’s also a slight creeper. You’re able to focus and it doesn’t leave you too mentally locked but it does have this floaty hazy feeling that wraps around your whole forehead and makes your upper sinuses feel just a bit numb. At one point I felt it in the muscles in the bottom of my neck and it gave me a minor ASMR like sensation. As time passes it makes its way in your limbs and down into your core and you start to feel that weight. I wasn’t couchlocked but it was really nice to just kick back on and watch the Star Wars Christmas special and get lost in how truly bad it is. Without these Gushers I’m not sure I would have been able to make it through the entirety of that bizarre affair but it was actually pretty enjoyable outside of the weird 20 minute subtitle-free intro comprised of nothing but Chewbacca’s family chatting it up. For the ticket I copped it at I would absolutely pick up this one up again. These Gushers were leaps and bounds more enjoyable than the last batch I picked up from Connected so I can say, in my experience at least, they were indeed plusher. Great work to the team at Big Al’s Exotics, your expertise is no doubt evident in this batch, and big thanks to Gulf Coast for helping make this review finally happen.

Lemon Meringue from THC Design

Lemon Meringue from THC Design via Tropicanna on 11/25/19. THC tested out to 22.89%. Purchased for $40 plus tax. I found myself on the hunt once again for a new sativa, having had an excellent experience with THC Design’s Crescendo, when I spotted this Lemon Meringue on the Menu at Tropicanna I was excited to give it a shot. The surface of these lanky buds are a mix of light and dark green with only a very rare burst of burnt orange pistils. It’s frankly hard to pin down the coloring due to the substantial frosting of giant salt-like triches giving the nugs an overall a gorgeous semi-yellow sheen. Some of the triches are so big that they spark to mind images of the spiked armor plating that lines the back of a Stegosaur.

The nose out of the jar is primarily musty with pepper. There is a faint element in the background that seems to “brighten” up the smell just a bit but I can’t pin it down. When busting open a nug the musty pepper aspect deepens and the smell shifts to a more savory scent with a hint of what smells like electrified metal. Breaking it down by hand you can get a feel those huge triches as they work through your fingers. I notice the musty pepper widens out even further and that electro-metal smell seems to shift into more a citric acid scent. I pick up on the lemon now but it’s more of a calm and natural lemon essence as opposed to an artificial sweet candy lemon. The inhale is smooth as expected but unexpectedly I do pick up on a sweet taste with just a hint of lemon. On the exhale I get a more earthy taste with a bit of a lemon soap edge. The headchange comes on fast but also has this creeper element that takes a while to fully hit and stays with you for a surprisingly long while when it does. There’s a haziness that sets in on the eyes and a pressure that builds in the forehead. I feel clear headed but also thwapped in a way where just chilling and zoning out on youtube videos seems to be a more appealing option than going for a hike or getting chores done around the house. There’s no element of that “get up and go” feeling I look for in my sativas, not that I feel tired or couchlocked by any means, it just doesn’t bring that near energy drink like feeling that I’ve come to depend on when reaching for a jar in the morning. Pairing it with a cup of coffee complimented the effect nicely and helped dampen the shaky anxious nature that often times accompanies a caffeine buzz. If I found myself on the hunt for a sativa once again and I came across this and the Crescendo, and I could only choose one, I’d go with the Crescendo hands down as it’s everything I look for in a sativa. However, if I was looking for a good rainy/snowy day strain to kick back with and watch Christmas movies this would be it, as it has a long lasting hazy yet non-drowsy effect that makes it perfect for exactly that. Great work once again to the team at THC Design. Can’t wait to see what you guys put out next!

Super Silver Haze from Good Flower

Super Silver Haze from Good Flower via The Spot on 11/16/19. THC tested out to 16.89%. Purchased for $10 plus tax thanks to Happy Hour. Super Silver Haze is a classic, so when I was able cop some at a discount due to the Spot’s killer Happy Hour rate, I was 100% on board. These buds are a mix of light and dark green with a dusting of triches and dark reddish brown pistils. I spotted a seed pod on one of the buds but I didn’t come across any actual seeds.

The herb is very crispy, my guess is that moisture pack was added to combat this, but it was not very helpful. The nose out of the jar is musty in a dusty back of your closet kind of way. The smell strikes me as being similar to clothes that have been put away for many years and are now just getting exposed to fresh air for the first time in a while. There’s this acrid smell that’s also that’s hard to pin down, it’s a little cheesy and a little citrusy, but overall just comes off as unpleasant. When breaking the nug, there’s a bit of a sweetness that emerges, but it’s mostly that same musty cheese scent. On the finger grind I notice the mustiness sort of widens out and you get a bit more of the sweet and citrus but it’s not all that powerful. I’d say it comes off as a really muted spicy lemon. The inhale is little harsh on the throat and I catch a flavor that reminds me of a pineapple rind but in an extremely faint sort of way. On the exhale I pick up on a slight sweetness with a bit of earthiness in the background. The headchange is weak and frankly frustrating. I smoked bowl after bowl and it would almost get me where I wanted to be but not quite. It felt like climbing an icy steep driveway, struggling as you’re almost to the top, then losing your footing and sliding all the way back down to the bottom. I’d describe this as Grandpa Strength. If you know an older person who used to smoke back in the day but finds that strains today are just too powerful this would be perfect for them. While I would recommend it for someone like that, I can’t say I would recommend it for anyone else, even at the discounted rate. Sorry Good Flower, as a sativa fan and a Super Silver Haze lover, this one was a total miss for me.

Moonbow (smalls) from Alien Labs

Moonbow smalls from Alien Labs via Connected Santa Ana on 11/16/19. THC tested out to 24.07%. Purchased 7 grams for $99 out the door due to 10% Happy Hour discount. Moonbow is definitely riding that hype wave right now so when I saw Connected Santa Ana had some smalls on deck I knew I had to get my hands on some. These light green near yellowish buds with burnt red pistils are tiny, full of sugar leafs, and lack density but are coated in a heavy frost.

This particular jar also came with a complementary hair as spotted by a few followers with eagle eyes in my first impressions video. The fact is this doesn’t bother me too much especially when you think about the food standards the FDA has set forth for something like ice cream. There’s an allowable amount of rat poop that can be in your ice cream, you can safely eat a certain near untraceable amount of it I guess, so from that perspective one stray hair that some how made its way into this jar of Moonbow isn’t so bad. However it was there so I am noting it. The nose out of the jar is fantastic. It hits with a sickly sweet candy fruit smell coupled with mint, and the more I left my nose in the jar, the more it smelled like a lime lifesaver. It was hard to get a sense for the scent on a busting the nug as there were no buds substantial enough to break open, I tried, but it essentially smelled the same as out of the jar. When grinding it by hand I picked up on a sweet lemon lime scent with mint that seemed to approach near eucalyptus levels of pungency. It really smelled like some sort of muted citrus version of Vics vapor rub. The inhale is smooth and I really don’t pick up on more than a light sugar sweetness. The exhale is much more complex though and I detect elements of that sweet floral citrus that bring a bit of a zing with it reminding me of the flavor off a lemonhead candy. The headchange comes on quick and has a nice spacey thwap to it. I found it to be fairly middle of the road in terms of effect leaning only slightly on the heavier side. I feel it on the forehead and behind the eyes, it gives you that sort of heavy doughface, where it’s like you’ve been slapped in the forehead and eyes with a piece of slightly tossed pizza dough and you feel derped out. There’s also this motivation sapping effect to it, it wasn’t hard to think, I just didn’t want to do anything. I thought at first I might have just been tired the first couple times I tried it but there is this sort of “meh” feeling that sets in after the initial buzz wears off where you just don’t feel like doing much. Even to get motivated to finish this review was a bit of a challenge and I had to shake off that feeling with the aid of multiple cups of coffee. I don’t mind being slumped by any given herb, in fact I most often welcome it, but it felt more like being sad than being tired. Its not like it sent me into a depression but it’s just not a part of the headchange I enjoyed. While it’s a good looking, great smelling herb with a decent smack to it, I just didn’t find any aspect of it quite unique or enjoyable enough where I’d be jumping at the chance to pick up the non-smalls at the full ticket. If it were between this and the Alien Mints I had recently, I’d definitely lean towards the Alien Mints as I was stoked to cop more, which isn’t something I can say about the Moonbow. Is it good? Yes. Is it groundbreaking? If you asked me that about an hour after smoking some I’d probably just say “meh”.
