Jack Herer from Kings Garden

Jack Herer from Kings Garden via Dr. Greenthumb’s Sylmar on 3/16/19. THC tested out to 19.04%. Got a fantastic deal on this at $35 plus tax. I went up to Dr Greenthumbs in Sylmar specifically to grab runts but when I saw this Kings Garden Jack Herer at a really reasonable ticket (especially thanks to my first time visitor discount and the funky flower friday discount) I knew I had to take it home. Jack is a favorite classic of mine and I could tell this particular batch was grown with utmost care. The nugs themselves are hearty, have a healthy coating of large triches, yet are fragile and crumble to the touch.

I have always thought that Jack smells like potpourri and this jar is no exception. After a nice finger grind you’ll find a mix of floral, pine and sweet scents lingering on your fingers. It smokes smooth, with no hint of harshness or expansion when it hits your lungs. The effect is definitely sativa leaning, no sense of couch lock by any means, and while it will give you a jolt it’s not as racy and focus oriented as lot of the common place sativas on the market today. I enjoy smoking this but would save it for an early afternoon smoke on a day when I didn’t have much going on as opposed to something I’d bust out on a wake and bake. Also, I found with this particular batch after about 40 minutes or so, it’d start to way a little heavy and I would find myself not motivated to do much in particular. Again, awesome for days when you want to just netflix and chill or lay by the pool but not something I’d want to feel while out on a hike. Overall, this is a fantastic example of Jack Herer and if I found it again at a similar ticket I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up again. This was a great entry experience into the world of @kingsgarden.ca and I can’t wait to delve in even further.

Sunset MAC from L.A. Made

Sunset MAC from L.A.Made via Peace of Green on 2/24/19. Unsure of THC% as it’s not on the packaging. Purchased for $30 plus tax. I was lucky enough to pop into the shop on the day Sunset MAC had just arrived so I knew I had to grab an eighth and I definitely don’t regret it. This flower is just plain beautiful, I had to get a video of it shinning in the sun to share it before I smoked it all away. Mostly light green with hints of purple here and there, the triches really steal the show as they are abundant and drill all the way to the stem. I found myself being constantly impressed as I ripped pieces off this main nug and it revealed the treasure trove of diamonds that existed just below the surface.

The smell is really hard to pin down on this one. It’s floral with hints of pepper and maybe a little sweet. It’s honestly a confusing experience for my nose but it is a pleasant one no doubt. It smokes fantastic although there’s no real after taste that I can pick up on. The effect is fantastic, one I’d deem a sativa leaning hybrid. The headchange comes on fast and strong, it has a slight paranoid edge so it doesn’t leave you too sedated but you do feel well lifted. It has some staying power and tends to let you down gently about 90 minutes after you’ve smoked but you could easily reach for another hit with in 30-40 minutes and be no worse for wear. For the ticket and the quality I’m definitely a repeat customer for Sunset MAC. I only hope its on the shelves next time I go to POG. This is a great afternoon herb for when you want to wind down but you still have things to do so you need to keep your wits at least semi about you. Again, big props to the budtender who helped me at POG and fronted me a buck when I was just short. Great customer service!

Blueberry Cruffin from Cannatique

Blueberry Cruffin from Cannatique via Connected Santa Ana on 2/14/19. Tested out at 22.44% THC which pales in comparison to the levels in their most recent batches. This particular pack was harvested on 8/14/18 and packed a week later. I got this for a steal at $35 plus tax. I became aware of Cannatique a few months ago and all of their herb looks absolutely top notch. On a hot tip from @rip.215 I was able to pick up an 8th at a very reasonable ticket for the high end rec market. The scent didn’t really garner too much attention when I popped the jar but it really comes out when you finger grind the herb. It breaks down into a couple consistencies, a fine powder and little pebble like rocks of bud and while this batch didn’t leave that finger hash like resin on my fingers it did leave behind a very pleasant sweet and fruity scent. The way the buds look are near alien.

At first glance I didn’t really pick up on the variety of colors that rapidly switched on the surface of every nug. It goes from light green to a deep near eggplant like purple and has layer of frost so thick it gives it a sugar blasted candy like look. The smoke was smooth and the after taste was pleasant but not as fruity as I would have imaged from the left over finger smell. As for the headchange, this really is a heavy indica. I ended a few days with Blueberry Cruffin in an attempt to write this review. I usually like to smoke the herb I’m writing about but with this particular batch that was problematic. About 10 minutes after smoking my brain felt thoroughly thwacked in the best possible sense. Even though this may be an older batch of this particular strain, it’s still a contender for some of the most sedative indicas I’ve had to date. I didn’t want to do much outside of chill, eat and have a good time and eventually (probably 45 minutes later) fall asleep. This is exactly what I look for in an indica, something to shut my brain off and just feel good and get me to bed for a good nights rest. While I may wrestle with the idea of paying for another batch at near double the ticket at a place like Cookies Melrose, if I could consistently find Blueberry Cruffin at LA Made price point, it might be my new go to good night strain. That said, the fact I’m even wrestling with the idea of paying near double speaks to the quality of the herb coming out of Cannatique. I definitely can’t wait to get my hands on some of their other flower (Town Jewels in particular) as the testing on the new batches is off the charts. If you can find some in a dispensary near you, I honestly don’t think you’ll be disappointed no matter the ticket.

Sin Mint Cookies from Pearl Pharma

Sin Mint Cookies from Pearl Pharma via MMD Hollywood on 1/24/19. THC Tested out at 20.2%. Would have been $55 plus tax but I got it for $20 due to MMD Hollywoods first time patient deal. I’ve had my eye on Pearl Pharma for a while now with all of the positive buzz I’ve heard revolving around Sin Mint Cookies and Double Cup. As with a lot of premium brands I found the ticket a bit difficult to stomach so I was fortunate to catch a break with MMD Hollywoods first time patient deal. While the look was impressive, the sample didn’t jump out at me like some of the other herb they had on display, but on hype alone I pressed forward with the Sin Mint Cookies. The look on these buds is the real winner.

It has a nice patchwork of light and dark greens comprising a majority of the surface with the greens getting so dark at times they approach hues of purple. The triches are also plentiful and give the surface a good fur like shine. The scent really isn’t quite there for me. I pick up on spice/must in the foreground and a very slight mint scent in the background. I find myself being bias these days towards sweet smelling and citrus terps so this isn’t a huge knock on this batch, but if I were to select from 3 different strains while blindfolded, this one wouldn’t stand out to me as the winner. The smoke and exhale is smooth through and through although I didn’t pick up on any lingering after taste there either. The effect is fairly powerful given this batch only tested out to just over 20% where I understand most of the time it tests out over 25%. The headchange itself comes on fast and heavy. If you’re looking for a good late afternoon hybrid experience I’d suggest pairing this strain with a cup of coffee. If have energy, you’ll definitely feel that uplifting mood enhancing effect that’s good for gaming or other semi-active yet not focus intense activities. If you’re at all tired this the headchange will just hit you like a sack of bricks and you’ll be out in 30 minutes. Not unexpected from a hybrid but I’d definitely put this in the indica leaning camp. At the full ticket, I can’t say I’ll be picking it up again soon. It’s a nice contender in the California high end market, but within that bracket there’s simply too many strains/companies to try to think about repeating unless it’s something incredible. While great, it’s not one for the books, especially when compared to MAC from LA Made coming in at a little over half the ticket. Unfair comparison? You tell me.

Green Crack from Flow Kana

Green Crack from Flow Kana via LAPCG on 1/15/19. THC Tested out at 17.2%. Purchased for $35. I love Green Crack. I’m a “Sativa” head. I know there’s a lot being said about how sativa, indica, and hybrids are all bullshit terms and it’s all about how we connect with the terps as individuals and I get there is deeper science behind it, but saying ‘sativa’ is just a short hand way to say these herb has a more uplifting and energetic high. While I can say I have always been able to depend on Green Crack to bring me those sort of effects I really can’t say that for this particular batch. I really have my doubts as to this being genuine Green Crack honestly. Most batches of it will cause my heart to near beat out my chest but I feel like this particular jar is semi heavy. It’s not indica heavy, you can start your day on it, but it definitely doesn’t have that near caffeine like effect I’ve come to depend on from Green Crack. That coupled with the look of the buds in this jar are one of the major disappointments here.

They just look half ass and stem filled, something I would expect from Old.Pal more than a “premium” brand like this purports to be. Looking for a positive, I have to give it to the scent, it has a nice sweet and spicy sent with a hint of mustiness in the background. After it’s ground it has a really nice light green color so it doesn’t come off as boofy as it looks in nug form. It smokes well too, but as I mentioned before, the effect is not what I think anyone is looking for in a Green Crack. For the ticket, this needs to be closer to really high end brands, but it’s really closer to sesh herb you can get for 1/4 the cost. It also appears from the language on the back of the jar that Flow Kana works with a variety of growers to source quality. This batch appears to be from “Spruce Grove”. If you’re going to be a broker, that’s fine, but you need to really make sure what you’re putting in the jar matches the quality of other herbs on the market at that ticket

Sour Diesel from Abatin Farms

Sour Diesel from Abatin Farms via LAPCG on 1/15/19. THC Tested out at 24.3%. Purchased for the bargain price of $15. For being on the very low shelf I have to say I’m a bit impressed. When compared to Old Pal coming in at the same ticket, this herb has the look of something much better. Fair looking nugs, a little on the darker side, but seems to have some decent trich coverage.

The smell is a little underwhelming for a Sour D. Nothing like the nose coming off the last batch I had from Creekside Wellness. Mostly it smells of a musty spice which doesn’t appeal to me when it comes to this strain. Sour D tends to have a fairly specific scent and I’m really not coming up on it here. The nug itself is really light and fluffy and crumbles apart at the touch. That said, it smokes fairly well and the headchange is definitely sativa oriented. Waves of speedy paranoia will hit you within a few minutes of putting down the bowl, but you definitely have to smoke a couple to get a desired “stoney” effect even with this testing at 24%. It just goes to show that THC amounts really aren’t everything. From a rec shop for the ticket, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised and while I wouldn’t recommend anyone go out of their way to grab this particular batch, if you found yourself in West Hollywood in need of some budget Sativa, this would be a good bet.

Orange Cookie Dough from KRD

Orange Cookie Dough from KRD via Highway OC. I won’t post the price as Highway OC seems to avoid that. I will say that this is THE most I have ever paid for an 8th in any market. I have to say I’m still getting over the sticker shock and I’ve begun comparing all the weed I get to this and the Apple Fritter and asking myself, is this really worth the jump in price? Now to the deets. The smell is very floral and sweet, it leaves sticky sweet residue on your fingers when you break it up, it really does smell like candy of some sort. This bud is DENSE. Like no give to the squeeze at all. In fact the triches are stacked so hard that it forms a frost armor around the plant itself. It’s pretty intense and I can’t really say I’ve seen anything like it before. I tried to get a picture of it on the smaller bud I had but it’s was difficult to capture in the same way as it hits the naked eye. This batch seems to cover the entire weed color spectrum in one go. I see a patchworks of light and dark greens woven in with some really deep purple hues. The hairs try their damnest to make their way to the surface a wind up through the dense landscape and sprout through the frost.

The headchange here really is phenomenal. I rolled up a J that was just shy of a gram and but the time I’d taken a couple hits I was already feeling the uplift. While a definite hybrid, there’s a sort of euphoric energy that makes itself known. I was walking down the street and having all sorts of creative thoughts. The stress of the day was completely gone and I was goofing around on the streets even though I was by myself. When an herb can do that, especially in less than a gram, I’d say it’s something special. That said I’m still wrestling with the price here. This is a very top shelf weed, it’s up there with the best of the best, but even at a rec shop the best of the best is less even after tax. I’m a person that really goes for the best bang for the buck and I know I could probably get a near equivalent bang for about half the price. It wouldnt be the same, but it’d be close. I would pick this up again without hesitation if I found it at a lower price but at it’s current ticket I would buy it for special celebrations and share it with friends. It’s definitely not something I’d smoke as my daily driver, although I’d like to, I’m just not that rich yet. In conclusion, this is a premium weed, with premium effects at an extremely premium price. If you smoke it, you will not be disappointed except when you look at your bank balance.
