Chemdawg Trails from 3C Farms

Chemdawg Trails from 3C Farms via OG Cannabis Cafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 21.01%. (Shoutout to Matt from 3C Farms and Red Rodriguez for making it happen) This was gifted to me but usually goes for $35 at 3C’s Downtown Medical shop at the time of this writing. It’s taken me a few months to cruise through the generous sample pack that 3C provided me way back in February, the world is a different place now, but we’ve finally arrived at the last jar. The surface of these spiky buds are mostly a silverish tea green that darkens to forest greens and even aubergine at points, with sporadic flares of dark amber pistils, and a significant frosting of yellowing triches that give them a winter haze like glow.

The nose out of the jar is musty in that old spice cabinet kind of way with a floral perfume backend. On busting open a nug a sweet floral takes center stage with that perfume amping up every so slightly. When breaking it down by hand, that spicy must returns to the foreground with a very savory scent that strikes me like soy sauce over white rice, while that sweet floral kicks around on the back end. The dry pull on the jay has a sweet floral quality but I didn’t pick up on much else. The inhale is smooth on both the bong and the joint, and has a floral musty taste on the former, but was fairly nondescript on the latter. The exhale on the joint is a peppery floral with a hint of sugar sweetness, where the bong is also a spicy floral, but has more of an “electric” musty quality that tickles the septum a little. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial , at 170c I get a floral must with a touch of mint, as where at 185c it’s still floral but it’s a little less defined and lacks that mint. The headchange comes on quick initially but also has a steady creep to it. You’ll feel that relaxation hit right away as the bullshit of the day quickly melts from the top of your mind into a distant memory and over time, if you have a moment where you need to collect yourself and stay focused, you’ll find it an extreme challenge as your brain will dart from thought to thought as your body feels wholly sedated. I feel like it’s a pretty good any time strain that works well if you’re playing games or chatting with friends, but if you’ve got to get some work done, you may be best served by saving this one til after you’re done taking care of business. I enjoyed this batch of ChemDawg Trails, and while I’m exactly not chomping at the bit to grab another jar, if I came across it for the ticket it goes for at 3C’s Downtown shop I could definitely see myself picking it up again.

Apple Fritter from Fresh Baked

Apple Fritter from Fresh Baked via The Spot Santa Ana on 6/03/2020 (shoutout to Blake for making it happen!). THC tested out to 26.2%. I was gifted this sample but it goes for anywhere from $55-65 pre tax. I remember seeing some slick Fresh Baked photos in the early days of Prop 64 on insta, but I hadn’t been luckily enough to actually come across any in a shop until recently, so I was stoked to finally get my hands on one of their signature strains. The surface of these moderately dense buds is a mix of neon and kelly greens with rich indigo accents, golden brown pistils, and is absolutely flooded with a torrent of cream white and straw yellow triches.

The nose out of the jar is a sweet fruit with musty spice undertone that really does give off a fruity pastry vibe. On busting open a bud that sweet fruit and spice remain present while a hint of mint and pine kick around in the background. It reminds me of something I’d expect to smell in a Bed Bath and Body Works style “Scents of the Autumnal Equinox” candle. When breaking it down by hand it leaves a healthy floral must on the fingers while the grinds have a sugar fruit sweetness with a noticeably piney backend. The dry pull on the joint gives off a cool mint with a touch of pine and a hint of fruity must in the background. The inhale is smooth and has a muted earthy floral quality on the joint whereas on the bong it’s more of a faint fruity spice. The exhale on the joint is a faint sweet floral with a little mustiness where the bong is a muted floral spice with an echo of a pastry undertone but it’s not too well defined. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial , at 170c there’s a surprisingly strong sweet minty floral, and at 185c the sweet mint stays present but is joined by that sweet fruitiness from earlier. The headchange comes on quick and with a satisfying thwack. The pressure starts in the forehead and works its way into the neck and the top of the shoulders with a slight ASMR like tingle. It’s easy enough to remain present for the most part, but there is a spacy aspect to it that will cause you to drift on occasion, however it’s not so overwhelming that you lose the thread of what’s going in front of you. It’s not something I’d choose to wake and bake on regularly, especially when you have a lot on your plate for the day, but it does function fairly well as an anytime smoke that will leave you satisfied and not wanting for more. All in all, I really liked this batch of Apple Fritter as it’s an enjoyable quality smoke that’s clearly well cultivated, and I would for sure pick this up again if I were to find it for the right ticket. $50-55 out the door is a really reasonable price but at 65 plus tax I’m definitely going to be hesitant. Great work to the whole Fresh Baked crew, can’t wait to get more of your flavors in the rotation!

Raspberry Dosido from Flowers by Fidels

Raspberry Dosido from Flowers by Fidels via Dabberchan Inc on 5/17/2020. No THC test results listed as this is traditional market flower. This usually goes for $40-50 from what I understand. Another absolute banger from Flowers by Fidels. These dense buds are a beautiful mix of string bean green and rich byzantium, plentiful fireplace orange pistils, and a blanket of cream colored triches that get so thick at times it looks like a small snow plow rolled through and made tiny berms along the surface of the nug.

The nose out the jar is a natural smelling berry that reminds me of freshly made fruit preserves with a musty undertone. On busting open a bud, it’s essentially the same, but the fruit smell brightens up a bit and there’s also a faint mint  in the background. Breaking it down by hand that sweet fruit smell seems to morph into more of a powdered fruit punch drink kind of sweet with a hint of mint on the backend. The dry pull on the jay is fruity sweet with a touch of mint which lines up the scent profile perfectly.  The inhale is smooth and has a floral earthy sweet quality on the bong, whereas on the joint that sweet fruit really shines through and makes itself know. The exhale off the bong has a sugar sweetness with the fruit coming in more muted, but on the joint, it’s more of a mild natural sweetness that strikes me as a smoke version of a raspberry Arizona Iced Tea. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I get a sweet berry with heavy mint and a touch of floral, where at 185c, the sweet berry flavor surprisingly intensifies while bringing a musty quality with it, as those mint and floral notes continue to kick around in the background. This was definitely one of the more flavorful and complex vape experiences in recent memory. The headchange comes on quick and with a dumbfounding thwack that will leave you rooted in every positive aspect of the word. There’s a haziness that puts pressure on the back of your eyes as it creeps into your shoulders and puts a weight on your limbs that’s only second to the strain it puts on your cognition. Your brain will cease to function for any sort of strenuous task but you’ll also very much cease to care. It’s a great end of week strain that can quickly put your mind and body at ease. I really enjoyed this batch of Raspberry Dosido and would cop another jar without hesitation. Great work once again Fidel Hydro, it’s evident from the last couple batches that you put out some superior quality flower, I’m very excited to see what comes down the line next.

Medcare Kush from Medcare Farms

Medcare Kush from Medcare Flower via Medcare Farms on 5/23/2020 (shout out to Garin for making it happen!). THC tested out to 24.19% THC. This was gifted to me but typically goes for $47.46 plus tax at Medcare Farms. I find myself in Lake Elsinore about once a month, and right at the exit I take there’s a huge billboard for Medcare Farms, so one day I decided to stop in and check them out. These semi-dense buds are a gorgeous mix of lime and forest greens coupled with splashes of midnight blue, light amber pistils, and a generous coating of white yellowing triches. It’s evident this flower is well cultivated.

The nose out of the jar is similar to MAC with a sweet creaminess but it has a very strong floral musty undertone. On breaking open a bud, that sweet cream and floral must combine into a bright acrid freshness with a touch of cream that’s really hard to pin down as it’s so complex. Busting it down by hand that mild sweet creamy must gets stuck to your fingers as the grinds themselves have those characteristics plus a very complementary savory quality that fills out the back end. The inhale is smooth and is essentially a sugar sweet floral on both although on the joint has more of a toasted taste. The exhale from the bong is a sweet musty cream with a faint touch of dough in the background where the joint is more of a savory must with a hint of sweet cream. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I get a floral zing with a strong pine edge whereas at 185c I get a less intense floral taste with a savory touch. The headchange comes on quick and with a solid thwap that will leave you stunned. It won’t couchlock you exactly but it’s the type of herb that forces you to will yourself to activity. It puts a certain weight in your forehead that travels down into your shoulders, you’ll be sitting there and you’ll think “I want to get up and get a drink”, but your body won’t follow suit for what feels like minutes afterward. I found it a better fit as an after work smoke that paired well with a movie and some dinner, however I wouldn’t pick a movie that requires intense focus as you’re sure to space out at some point and lose the thread. All and all, and I really enjoyed this batch of Medcare Kush and for the ticket it goes for at Medcare Farms, I can see copping another jar next time I find myself in Lake Elsinore. My compliments to the whole crew at Medcare Farms, great work!

MAC1 from Flowers by Fidels

MAC1 from Flowers by Fidels via Dabberchan Inc on 5/17/2020. No THC test results listed as this is traditional market flower. Since it’s traditional market it’s a bit of If You Know You Know staus, but it typically goes for $40-50 from what I understand. Flowers by Fidels has been blowing up as of late on instagram, so when I saw my boy Dabberchan had a batch of his MAC1, I knew I had to get my hands on some. These small but mighty nugs are a mix of harlequin and sea greens with wine colored lilts, compacted pale orange twine pistils, and an avalanche of brilliant white triches that give it that signature MAC look.

The nose out of the jar is a deep peppery must with just a hint of cream filling out the back end. On busting open a bud the sweet cream takes center stage along with a berry scent while pushing that deep acrid must to wait in the wings. When breaking it down by hand the grinds are a delicious mix of sweet berry cream with a musty peppery tang that matches up with my best MAC experiences. A sweet fruitiness dominates the profile of the dry pull mixed in with a bit of cream and a touch of floral. The inhale is smooth and comes off as an earthy floral with a sugar sweet tang on the joint where the bong is essentially the same but you get a sense for that creaminess. The exhale is a sweet and savory floral with hints of an earthy sweet cream in the background on the joint whereas the bong is more of a sweet and spiced cream with a floral edge. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial , at 170c it’s very floral with a touch of sweet mint and a hint of pine, where at 185c it’s still fresh and floral but seems less defined flavorwise. The headchange comes on quick and with a smack that sends you straight to outer space. It doesn’t hold you back physically by any means but it absolutely wrecks your ability to focus as your mind will wander more than the fictionalized version of Chris McCandless in Into the Wild. Having just reviewed another batch of MAC from Cresco, when stood up side by side, I’d say the Fidels batch shines not only in taste and flavor but in the quality of the smoking experience overall. I’d grab another jar of this in a heartbeat. If you’re a fan of MAC1 and have the opportunity to do so then you definitely should too. Excellent work by Fidel and the Crew! Can’t wait to write up some of these other batches I have on deck.

MAC from Cresco Labs

MAC from Cresco Labs via Connected Bellflower on 5/17/2020. THC tested out to 27.864% THC. Purchased for $38 out the door. When I stopped into Connected Bellflower to waste some time while waiting on a friend to get home, I spotted this MAC from Cresco and while my only experience with the brand was seeing it mentioned online occasionally when discussing corporate cannabis efforts, the ticket was too good to resist and I was admittedly curious about the brand so I decided to jump in. The surface of these buds flip back and forth from parakeet and shamrock greens to deep violet and eggplant purples, featuring wisps of brownish gold pistils, and a coating of frosty white triches so thick it obscures everything beneath it.

The nose out of the jar is a musty pepper with an herbaceous twist. Busting open a bud a sweet cream emerges and pushes that musty pepper back just a bit. When breaking it down by hand I get a musty chalky sweet cream that lacks that berry aspect I’m used to getting out of MAC where this hits me more like a chalky powdered milk. The dry pull on the jay has a sweet creamy spice that reminds me every so slightly of a chai cream frap from Starbucks and has a very subtle hint of berry in the background, so subtle in fact I’m not sure if I just imagined it, but I did note it so I thought I’d mention it. The inhale was smooth initially but became harsh towards the end of the joint, which tasted of sweet earthy cream, whereas the bong had more of a creamy floral quality. The exhale off both the bong on the joint was a very faint and flat sweet cream with a peppery tang that was hard to pin down as it wasn’t too defined flavorwise. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes I get pretty much the same floral with a hint of mint at both 170c and 185c but the floral is slightly stronger on the latter. The headchange comes on quick and with a slap that leaves you hella spacy. It doesn’t weigh too heavy on you physically and won’t leave you couchlocked but plays absolute havoc on your ability to focus. If you’re watching a movie, expect to zone out only to snap back 10 minutes later and realize you haven’t been paying attention at all, and you have no idea why these guys in trenchcoats are chasing the main character. All and all, I feel like this was a solid representation of MAC, and a pretty decent introduction to Cresco at a bargain ticket. Other than the joint ending up a tad harsh, I can’t really find any reason to write Cresco off, so I’ll definitely pick up another batch of something else they offer to see how it holds up. Pretty good job Cresco, you’ve got my attention.

Kushberry Cheesecake from LA Kush

Kushberry Cheesecake from LA Kush via Show Grow Long Beach on 4/27/2020 (shoutout to Travis at Show Grow for the swoop). THC tested out to 25.74% THC. I got this for $40 out the door but it typically goes for about $50 plus tax. A few years ago, LA Kush was one of my favorite medical spots to hit as they had solid tickets and some unique genetics, so getting my hands on this Kushberry Cheesecake was a welcome blast from the past. These mildly dense nugs have a look that reminds me of the tall aborvitaes that you commonly see lining the driveways of upper middle class homes. The surface is mostly a mix of forest and lime greens with sprigs of dark amber pistils and a frosting of yellowing triches that give the buds a warm chartreuse sheen.

The nose out of the jar is sweet and fruity with a musty cheesy backend that gets more dominant when you hold the jar at about arm’s length. On busting open a nug that fruit gets louder and hits me like a candy peach with a sweet cheesy zing. When breaking it down by hand, that sugary fruit amps up even more, and comes off like a delicious mixed berry compote with a complex cheesy sweet cream filling out the background. The dry pull on the jay has those sweet berry compote vibes with a funky cheese pastry twist that’s reminiscent of a guava cheese strudel from Porto’s bakery. The inhale is smooth and carries a sugar sweetness on the joint whereas the bong really brings out that tangy cheese aspect. The exhale on the joint is a mix of sweet berry and floral with a near citrus like edge and a musty cheese finish where the bong is sweet cheesy floral with a vague gassy aftertaste. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes, at 170c it’s mostly floral with a hint of pine where at 185c it has a vague floral taste coupled with a mild sugar sweetness but it’s really hard to pin down as it’s much less defined. The headchange comes on quick and with a solid slap that has left me dumbstruck on more than one occasion. It’s very cerebral and will leave you hazy eyed as your brain tumbles through a universe of loosely connected thoughts while you somehow remain tethered to reality, easily able to accomplish familiar chores on autopilot, however if something requires focus you’ll find yourself struggling to stay on task. In that sense, it’s not an ideal wake and bake sativa if you have business to handle, but it is a fantastic smoke for an agendaless Sunday morning as it has some euphoric energy that will keep you feeling good and ready for most anything that comes your way. Great job LA Kush, I really enjoyed this one, so much so I had to reup on it just to finish out this review as I’d smoked through my initial batch too quickly. If you’re a sativa head, and can find it at a ticket you’re comfortable with, I’d say you definitely should give Kushberry Cheesecake a shot.

Mimosa from Curated Cannabis

Mimosa from Curated Cannabis on 4/13/2020. THC tested out to 24.63%. This was gifted to me but it goes for $65 an 8th/$300 an ounce at The Spot in Santa Ana. Curated Cannabis puts out some of the most gorgeous flower I’ve ever seen so when they invited me to check out their Mimosa I couldn’t resist. These big bulbous buds are an eye catching blend of rich indigo and deep aubergine accompanied by bright chartreuse and forest greens, flares of fireplace orange pistils and an army of tall white triches crowding into every available space, obscuring the true color of the bud from the naked eye and giving it a hazy glow.

The nose out of the jar is a very natural musty backyard orange with a strong cheesy cheeto-like backend. On busting open a bud the orange gets louder but the muted cheeto shifts into more of a light buttered popcorn undertone. When breaking it down by hand a sugar sweetness emerges, joining forces with the orange, reminding me of how Sunny D smells with hint buttered popcorn in the background. The dry pull on the joint is almost like biting into a backyard orange and is even complimented with a little zesty rind like zing. The inhale is smooth and I get a minty floral taste off the bong whereas the joint has more of a light orange musk. On the exhale I get a general sweet fruit with a bit of mint off the bong but the joint is more tightly defined as it hits the senses like a muted fresh orange juice. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes at 170c I really get a sense of that orange with a hint of buttered popcorn and at 185c that orange still stays present but is more amorphous and floral. The headchange comes on quick and gives you a gentle lift while leaving you feeling slightly slow brained and indifferent when it comes to any tasks you may have on your to-do list. It lacks the get up and go I look for in my sativas and left me sort of just sitting on the couch, head in hand, having zero motivation to do anything of consequence. This is fairly typical in my experience with Mimosa though so I wasn’t too surprised, and as always I feel a bit duped by how gorgeous plants with Purple Punch in their lineage can be, as their bark always seems so much more forceful than their bite. That said, if you’re a fan of natural orange terps and of the headchange purple punch provides, I think you’ll love this batch of Mimosa and you should give it a shot. It looks and smells absolutely fantastic but the effects didn’t strike me as something that beared repeating personally so I probably wouldn’t cop this one again.

Woah-si-woah from Top Shelf Cultivation

Woah-Si-Woah from Top Shelf Cultivation via Show Grow Long Beach on 4/27/2020. THC tested out to 29% THC. This typically goes for about $65-70 before tax. I have been hearing nothing but praise for Woah-Si-Woahs over the past year or so, but every time I attempted to get my hands on this strain it managed to elude me, however thanks to some help from Travis at Show Grow I was finally able to pin it down and see what’s what. These large dense nugs are mostly lime and olive green with splashes of aubergine, some short scarce brownish-orange pistils, and a lining of bird spike triches that cover every millimeter of available surface area.

The nose out of the jar hits me as rubber at first but widens out into a sweet vanilla gas. On busting open a nug, the sweet vanilla gas becomes more evident, while a pine quality emerges accompanied by a hint of mint. When breaking it down by hand a strong smell of mint and pine cling to my fingers whereas the grinds themselves have a sugar sweet mint pine fuel quality. The dry pull on the joint has a sweet mint taste that’s so vaporous it has a semi eucalyptus vibe. The inhale is smooth and has a minty rubber taste on the joint as where the bong offers more of a straight rubber eraser taste. The exhale from the joint is a vanilla pine fuel with a floral back end on the joint where the bong offers a similar experience but is notably lacking the vanilla aspect. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I got a very rich minty pine with a floral back end. I only had enough material left to fill a single crucible but my guess is that low temp is the way to go on this one given its terpene profile. The headchange comes on quick and with a very noticeable thwap. At times, when I’d be smoking other herbs that just weren’t quite getting me on the level I was looking for, and I found myself leaning on Woah-si-woah to get the job done. It makes its way into your eyes at first, hazing them over as it works down into your body and firmly keeps you planted on the couch despite feeling fairly mentally alert. I could think well but struggled to express those thoughts verbally and to do anything other than sit, stare think really. Over time the pressure increases and if you’re not loaded up on coffee or energy drinks you’ll find yourself weed napping after about an hour. All and all, Woah-si-Whoa did not disappoint as it really is a powerful herb that packs an enjoyable day-ending wallop and while I would be on board to cop it again and make it part of my permanent headstash, the only thing stopping me is the damage it would do to my wallet. If that’s not an issue for you then I’d say go for it, you’ll have no regrets picking this one up, even if you’re budget minded and on the fence about grabbing it I’d say you should give it a shot at least once.

Berzerker from Jay and Silent Bob (powered by Caviar Gold)

Berzerker from Jay and Silent Bob (powered by Caviar Gold) via Show Grow Long Beach on 4/27/2020 (Shoutout to @dude_doing_things for swooping it for me). THC tested out to 840.43 MG for the batch which I believe calculates to about 24%. Goes for $56 before tax. Growing up I watched the movie Clerks nearly every day of my Freshman and Sophomore years of high school. It’s one of those movies I quoted to everyone around me to an annoying degree, so when I saw that Jay and Silent Bob had their own brand of “Lunar Modules” (aka moon rocks), I knew I had to get my hands on some. I will admit, once I found out that it was “powered by Caviar Gold”, I reflexively grimaced as their pre-rolls haven’t sat well with me in the past and as I opened the jar I was reminded why. The surface of these buds are a patch work of greenish yellow kief and dark black spots that appear stained through with oil. No semblance of the original herb remains.

The nose is this intensely fake sickly sweet vanilla berry. It smells like a cheap scented candle version of vanilla and berry, like something you might find at the 99 Cent store because they obviously botched the formula when making them, but couldn’t afford to just throw the rejects away. When busting open a nug it breaks in an odd way, as if the nug itself is dry but remoistened by the distillate, it comes off in these big solid hunks but the smell remains the same. When grinding it down by hand it leaves this sticky off putting film on the fingers and the sickly sweet vanilla smell gets really strong with a berry like edge. As I prepped the J, my face remained contorted, and it felt like someone was telling me to eat something that smelled really gross because it actually tasted really good. The dry pull did end up being much tastier than I thought as it hit me with sugar sweetness and a hint of gas. The inhale is a little harsh and will leave you with a sore tickle in the back of your throat from the first hit. It’s semi-floral in this chemical-esque perfumey sort of way, with a bit of waxy vanilla sweetness in the background on the bong, as where on the joint it more of a straight forward muted fake vanilla. The exhale on the bong feels like you’re literally breathing out some of your grandma’s oldest cheap perfume, as where on the joint, it has a fake sugar sweetness with a hint of berry and a little skunky beer underneath. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes at 185c I get a shockingly pleasant sweet floral with a pine zing. The headchange comes on fast but is really tame for something that is supposed to shoot you to space. It’s functional enough yet there’s nothing specific as to its effects, it just feels like a disappointingly generic and mild high, and it really makes me wonder about their starting material. What kind of weed is this anyway? There’s no indication on the box. My thoughts have always been that moon rocks are essentially a way to hide boof by spicing it up with some oil and kief and the Lunar Modules haven’t done much to change my mind. The truth is, 10 years ago I probably would have went bonkers over this product as Caviar Gold was in fact high powered herb for the time, but times have most definitely changed. People often ask me why I don’t give a number rating in my reviews and one reason is that quality is a moving target. What was a 10/10 a decade a go is a 5 or less by today’s standards so those numbers become arbitrary at some point. If Jay and Silent Bob had gotten their hands on these buds back in the 90’s they’d probably have some of the best weed around, however, in today’s marketplace it feels like an anachronism. It’d be like going to Best Buy and seeing a Zune on the same shelf and at the ticket as a new iPad, you’d probably just wonder, “who wants to buy that?” and I have the same question about this. My guess would be a Kevin Smith fan who smokes weed maybe once or twice year and no familiarity with quality herb. As much as I’d love to give a Jay and Silent Bob cannabis product a passing grade I just can’t. The only redeeming value this batch had was a surprisingly tasty dry pull/vape and that was only in contrast to how unpalatable the rest of the experience was. This really should be put on the low shelf for a bargain ticket as opposed to what it goes for regularly. I’m not sure I’d even smoke this again if it were given to me. It just wasn’t enjoyable and I don’t care to repeat the experience.
