Tangieland from Curated Cannabis on 01/05/2022. THC tested out to 31.954%.This was gifted to me but checking the menu at Mother Nature’s Remedy you can get an 8th of Mendo Breath out the door for $31.39 if the site is accurate. At the start of the year I found myself lucky enough to be invited back down to the Curated Cannabis facility to chat it up about all things cannabis, and while there I was gifted a couple samples to review, one of which was this Tangieland grown by Cathedral Green. 

This single giant beastly bud is mostly a mix of lime and sage greens with subtle blooms of aubergine dotting nugscape, accompanied by gangly flare ups of ginger and burnt orange pistils, and a beautiful deluge of intact white and egg cream triches that fuzz over the landscape like snow on an old CRT TV. 

The nose out the jar is overwhelming Jack Herer due to the high amount of Terpinolene I’m guessing, but there’s also a bit of a sweet musty tang that kicks around in the background as well. Busting open a bud the jack dissipates and has a sort of flat musty scent with a touch of floral, but comes off surprisingly muted overall. Busting it down by hand, the nug smoothly breaks apart as that jack scent amps back up, but also brings a hint of fruity sweetness to it that reminds me of a weak mango hi chew.

The dry pull on the joint is hard to discern, it’s very light, and hits with a peppery tang and a touch of mustiness underneath it. The inhale on the bong comes with a very light floral spice whereas the joint was fairly nondescript. The exhale on the bong is a muted peppery musk with a faint distant wisp of fruit whereas the joint is an extremely light spiced floral. While not particularly flavorful it should be noted that the smoke is incredibly easy on the lungs. It’s hard to describe but I’ve found myself saying it’s the closest you can get to the feel of vaping flower while still actually smoking it. Speaking of, cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c I get a light semi-sweet floral followed up by a distant peppery jack bite, whereas at 185c it’s more of a generic musty floral. 

The headchange hit with a near immediate sense of calm but left my ability to think and focus intact. One time in particular prior to smoking I found myself ramped up over the challenge of the day and afterward, the physical anxiety I felt moments earlier was completely obliterated, although the thoughts that generated that anxiety remained, I felt I was better equipped to work through them more efficiently. Over time that sense of calm ramped up and I found myself in a really easy going state, with a que sera sera attitude, and where all of my movements felt much more deliberate yet moderately delayed. Overall I’d say this is a good strain to keep on deck for a lazy Sunday or the start to a chill evening at home. It brings that really mellow vibe that will allow you to enjoy kicking back on the couch, but doesn’t wreck you cognitively, so you can consume your favorite sort of media without losing the thread and having to constantly rewind/reload. 

All and all this is another visually stunning live cured entry from the fine folks at Curated Cannabis, and while the nose didn’t translate to the flavor on this one, if you like the effects as I’ve described them, for the ticket this goes for at Mother Nature’s Remedy (when in stock) I say you really can’t go wrong. 

Jealousy from Flightpath

Jealousy from Flightpath via Inspectorganja562 on 1/2/2022. THC tested out to 31.33%. This was gifted to me but I believe this is supposed to go for somewhere right around $50 out the door. When Inspector Ganja threw down a few bags of FlightPath strains on the table and said take your pick, I decided to roll with this Jealousy as it’s the only one I’d had any previous experience with and I was curious as to how it would compare. 


These taut pointed buds are mostly a deep indigo with chartreuse and emerald green accents, accompanied by tightly coiled fiery orange pistils that seem to struggle to break through the dense surface, all of which is covered in a fairly thick coating of white bird spike like triches. 


The nose out of the bag is a chalky gelato like fruity sweetness with a strong vaporous minty underpinning. Busting open a bud, the fresh mint amps up and brings a mustiness with it that dominates the scent profile near completely, aside from this faint soy sauce like savoriness that is detectable but buried in the menthol of it all. Breaking it down by hand you get a feel for just how incredibly dense these nugs are, it gave me a lot of resistance, and left my fingers smelling of musty mint and a touch of chalky cream. The top note of the grinds has a peppery quality followed immediately by that strong mint and a chalky sweetness along with a distant hint of that fruitiness from earlier. 


The dry pull has a rich sweet fruit with an immediate strong mint follow up to the point it leaves an astringent zing on the tongue. The inhale on the joint comes with a light floral sweetness whereas the bong is a slightly mintier version of the same. The exhale on the joint is a semi sweet chalky floral with a bit of a distant grape lean, whereas the bong has more of an all encompassing musty chalky sweetness. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c I get a minor mint pine on the way in and more of a piney floral on the way out, whereas at 185c the mint gets much less pronounced as a standard floral quality fills in the gaps on both the inhale and exhale.


The headchange comes on quickly and smacks with authority. On more than one occasion it took me from a state of high energy and focus to one completely sapped of motivation and losing the thread at every turn. Even with the best intentions of staying on task I felt it near impossible, the want to chase every shiny object put a constant toll on my stamina, and my determination challenged by an ever strengthening feeling of not giving a single fuck about anything. There was a slight physicality to it, a weightiness that ran down through the base of the neck into every limb, but mostly it felt like it was grappling with my cognitive abilities which was mentally draining. I didn’t want to think about anything, I just wanted to sit and stare blankly into the distance and let my mind wander unchecked. I would definitely save this one for some evening smoke when you’ve got nothing to do, no one to interact with, and are ready to just zombie the hell out. Most days I need my brain to work as best it can, but there are those nights where I just need to wipe the slate clean and forget everything I’ve been through, and this batch of Jealousy would be a good companion for those situations. 


All that said, if I were in the market for a day ender type herb I might consider picking this up again, the look and nose are on point but the flavor didn’t exactly translate, and the effect for me in particular has such a specific use case that it would highly depend on the rate I found it at out in the wild. I think $50 out the door is fair. It’s apparent that Flightpath has the chops to put out a pretty darn good rec market product, I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for more of their offerings in stores, solid work Flightpath!

HitchHiker from Connected via Catalyst Cherry on 12/22/2021. THC tested out to 28.31%. Purchased for $80 out the door. After taking a break at the end of last year, I wanted to get back into the swing of things by grabbing some new hype, so when @nathan.avila gave me the heads up on this Hitchhiker drop at Catalyst Cherry I figured it fit the bill perfectly. 


The outward appearance of these light and fluffy shrub like buds are indigo and aubergine mixed in equal parts with shades of lime and parakeet green, sporadic bursts of shiny copper colored pistils flare along the ridges of the of the calyx and especially pop when contrasted against the richest purples of the nugscape, all of which is flocked in a fairly thick coating of white and egg cream colored triches. 


The nose out of the jar is a subtle floral sweetness, with a very minor touch of fruit, and what hits me as a cheesy lean. Busting open a bud there’s a deep musty funk that emerges, with a sweet yet sharp vaporous quality that zings the nostril, and is slightly reminiscent of the feeling I got from breathing in car exhaust when I was a kid. Breaking it down by hand my fingers are inundated with a very minty must, while the grinds themselves have a deep rich funk that comes off similar to GMO but less acrid, while a sweet vaporous mint keeps its presence known and battles for attention against that show stealing rank. 


The dry pull on the joint has a light grungy chem-like taste that hits as overall savory with a touch of floral sweetness and chalk on the backend. The inhale on the joint has a slight gassy bounce off the tongue, whereas on the bong it dials it back, and comes with a light gassy floral and a very distant hint of rubber. The exhale on the joint is a sweet chalky floral coupled with that vaporous zing, and a sweet musty exhaust aftertaste that brings a bit of a raw dough quality with it as well. On the bong there’s a grungy funk with a slightly musty dough aftertaste and an occasional, but not always present, muted minty tang. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1 at 170c I get an extremely strong minty zing on the way in, while the exhale comes out like a straight minty Pine-sol, with an aftertaste that stuck around my mouth for an inordinate amount of time, and only dissipated when I went back to drinking my coffee. Turning it up to 185c the strength of the mint wanes on the inhale, but becomes more pronounced on the exhale against the pine, yet it still retains that forceful chemical aftertaste. 


The headchange comes on fairly fast but is subtle in nature. Physically I felt a slight headband effect which translated to a haziness that sat on top of, and behind the eyes, while a touch of weight hit my shoulders and a chill vibe set in. There was also this feeling of lacking coordination, nothing too debilitating, but I wouldn’t want to be challenged to a fight or a foot race in that state exactly. Mentally I was alert and able to focus when needed, however there were occasional bouts of hardcore spaciness would take me off the rails, but they wouldn’t last all too long and when regaining presence it wasn’t too hard to get back on track. It also seemed to have a slight creeper effect where it took about twenty minutes to fully take hold, but wasn’t all too overwhelming or powerful even at its height.


Overall, this is a beautiful herb with a funky yet pleasing terp profile, and a gentle thwap that’ll stay with you for a couple hours. While I enjoyed it, I can’t see myself personally picking it up again at the current ticket as there’s a lot of fantastic herb out there within that bracket I haven’t tried yet, and there was nothing particularly unique about the smoke or effect that has me foaming at the mouth to get my hands on more. The vape experience was one of the most flavorful in recent memory though, so if your primary method of ingestion is a vape and you like what I’ve said about it, it might be right up your alley but it’s just a little shy of re-up status for me.

Zoap from Wizard Trees via LA Kush Klinic on 7/17/2021. THC not listed on this batch. Purchased for $70 out the door. On the very same day that I picked up a sample of Jawbreakers from @russianassassinboyz / @losangelestraditional I also put in an order for this batch of Zoap for delivery by LA Kush Klinic. It was my first time using the service and it was awesome. I set the delivery point for across the street from Traditional and was sent an ETA, as the time was approaching I crossed the street and sure enough a car pulled up right at the designated time, I was seriously impressed. In any case, even though I picked this up a while back, all of my notes were done back in July (outside of the vape ones), but I am only getting time now to pull them together into this write up. 


The surface of these semi-portly buds are a mix of aubergine and wine purples coupled with olive green and chartreuse hues, accompanied by ubiquitous apricot orange pistils that wildly wind through the upper most canopy of the nug, all of which is gently obscured by a spate of white and goldenrod triches that give the herb an overall fuzzy look. 


The nose out of the bag is a sweet yet incredibly grungy fruit with an earthy quality and hints of freshness. It’s a bit confusing to be honest, there’s a very unique delicious sort of sweetness but also a gassy quality and this dirty, sort of grimey off putting element which would make you think twice if you smelled it in your food. Busting open a bud, that sweetness widens out and becomes a combo of sugar sweet floral and perfume floral, in addition to the introduction of a vaporous quality that zings the nostril and an overall candy sweetness. Breaking it down by hand the sugar sweet candy quality remains, but the fruit scent from earlier shifts into a more well defined sugary orange with a faint mint underneath, giving the grinds a harmonious orange and sweet floral scent. 


The dry pull on the joint brings a sugar sweet floral and a hint of chalky sweetness with a touch of gas in the background, and maybe a hint of faint citrus, but that note was inconsistent. The inhale on the bong comes with a strong soap like bounce off the tongue which really raised my brow, my notes say “wow, does sort of hit like soap” as I wasn’t expecting that from how it smelled. The joint however is all floral which ranges from strong and perfume like at the start and leaves a semi-sweet floral finish. The exhale on the joint comes with a cacophony of floral citrus zest, sweet candy, a faint hoppiness, all of which is enveloped by this omnipresent vaporous quality. On the bong I get a saccharine fruity cream and chalky sweet floral with a pine forward mint underneath. It really rides a fine line between candy and floral, and yes, even a bit of those soap characteristics shine through. Cross checking the flavor on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c I get a sugar sweet mint on the way in, with a pinesol like freshness, and a hint of citrus on the way out. At 185c I get a more muted mint on the inhale whereas on the exhale there’s this muddled minty pine freshness. These vape notes were taken much more recently with the very last bit of Zoap I had, so I’d try to not put too much emphasis on them as the experience most likely would have been different if I’d gotten to it sooner, but it still stands up fairly well given the circumstances. 


The headchange comes on quick, leaves me feeling lost in the sauce, and has some pretty decent staying power to boot. I found myself spacing out hard, even a couple hours after smoking, and in general felt fairly slow witted and sapped of motivation. While the body high was mellow, it did affect me enough to the point that I lacked confidence in my physicality, so I can’t say I’d recommend smoking this before taking on activities that require stellar coordination. In addition, my body got more weighty over time, to the point where the couch really started to look attractive, but not to the point where it made me take a seat exactly. 


All and all Zoap is some unique tasting smoke with long lasting stupefying effects, and while the ticket may be on the higher end, I think it’s worth the cost of admission and trying at least once. This was a great first introduction to the Wizard Trees library, I can understand why they have the rep that they do, this was some quality work and I look forward to checking out more of their strains asap.

JawBreakers from Russian Assassin Boyz and Traditional Los Angeles

Jawbreakers from The Russian Assassin Boyz via Los Angeles Traditional on 7/17/2021 (big thanks to them both for making it happen!). THC not listed on this batch. This was gifted to me but looking at the menu at Traditional in DTLA I’d estimate this would go for about $46 out the door. Way back in July Russian Assassin Boyz gifted me this jar of JawBreaker as it was just about to hit store shelves and they wanted to get my opinion on it. I went home, shot my first impressions video, went through all of my normal note taking over the course of a week, and here it sat waiting to be written up into a full review. When my instagram page was disabled I took it as a sign that I needed a break, one which went a little longer than I intended, but I wanted to pick back up where I left off so here we are. So when you look at the date at the start of this review don’t let that fool you, while the notes are old, the herb was fresh when I took them. That said, on to the actual review. 


The surface of these dense bulbous buds is a patchwork of forest and lime greens with light siphoning midnight blues that are so deep it nears black in some spots, coupled with bunches of tightly coiled creamy melon orange pistils, and a thick coating of bright white and clear triches that when contrasted against the background look like a galaxy of stars in a Joshua Tree night sky. 


The nose out of the jar has a strong chem/gmo smell with a minor chalky sweetness in the background. On busting open a bud the chem gets louder and that grungy savory funk is definitely dominant, but it leaves just enough room for a distant shifty mint and a hint of fresh dough. Breaking it down by hand it leaves a sweet semi minty must on my fingers, while the grinds have a sugar sweet floral with a chem backing, and this savory sour lean that hits me almost like a funky BBQ sauce. The scents are all tumbled together and hard to differentiate, but there’s this mix of freshness and chem that when taken together has this dental antiseptic quality to it, like a familiar yet foreign mouthwash. 


The dry pull on the joint comes with a sweet chalky chem and a minty lilt, almost like a minty candy cigarette with a floral kick. The inhale on the joint has a chemy gas that bounces off the tongue, and I’m one to use the term “gas” sparingly, but was truly surprising how close it came to a legit “car exhaust” taste. The inhale on the bong was a bit more faint, had a slight snickerdoodle like taste, but that’s all I could glom on to at the time. The exhale on the joint was a sweet floral with a musty chem tang, whereas on the bong it was more of a sweet floral cream, with that chem like zing coming through on the back end. Cross checking the flavor on my Ghost Vapes MV1 at 170c I get a really strong sense of pine on the way in and on the exhale the pine remains strong with just a hint of a floral backing, whereas at 185c the pine is still dominant but has a chemical twist where it comes off closer to a pinesol like taste with that floral still lingering in the background. 


The headchange came on quickly with a touch of haze across the eyes, a numbness in the face, and a slight weakness in my knees that didn’t exactly force me to take a seat but made the idea of taking one that much more tempting. Mentally I felt cognizant but spacey, it put me in a place where I was easily sucked into my phone and absolutely lost track of everything going on around me, only to look up and realize 20 minutes had passed in what felt like the span of just a few moments. I could remain aware with a concerted effort, but lacking exterior motivation to do so, it simply felt better to allow my mind to wander unchecked. Over time, the pull of the couch got stronger, and while I still felt alert I could feel my body settling in hard with zero intentions of an exit strategy. 


All in all, I really enjoyed my time with this batch of JawBreaker and could definitely see myself picking it up again in the future. It’s a tasty solid smoke with an enjoyable smack that’s perfect for rainy day lounging without putting you down for the count. If you’re a chem/GMO fan, but looking for something in that vein that won’t absolutely obliterate you, I’d say this is right up your alley. Great work on this one Russian Assassin Boyz/Traditional, keep cranking out these hits, I’m looking forward to seeing what you put out next! 

Fruity Pebbles from Blackleaf

Fruity Pebbles from Blackleaf via @inspector_of_all (on insta and this very website) on 5/22/2021. No testing information available on this batch. Inspector and I traded jars on this one so I have no idea what it runs typically.  

I’ve been following Blackleaf on instagram as far back as I can remember, but never came across an opportunity to try his herb, until now that is thanks to my buddy Inspector. He managed to get his hands on this run of Fruity Pebbles and, in a tradition as old as humanity itself, we traded batch for batch (my offer being some 710 Labs Marshmallow OG). 


The surface of these squatty shrub like buds are a combo of sage, hunter and forest greens with occasional bursts of grape and byzantine purple, scraggly spider leg-esque pumpkin and burnt orange pistils, all of which is enrobed in a thick hazy layer of milky white triches.  


The nose out of the jar is a dirty natural fruity sweetness, like a muted rotting pineapple or mild organic cantaloupe still carrying some of the dirt from the field where it was grown. Busting open a bud the fruitiness pushes that earthy musk to the background and widens out into a more complex sweet aroma, while bringing hints of cream and freshness along with it. Breaking it down by hand, the grinds come with a musty fruity cream, and have that pineapple shifting to a more sugary tone although remaining very muted and having a chalky lilt. When taken all together it’s somewhere between a starburst and a neko wafer, or maybe even a toned down all natural hi-chew, as the sweetness is subtle and far from cloying. 


Taking a dry pull on the joint, that light pineapple sweetness comes through, but on occasion hits like a straight red delicious apple accompanied by a soft waxy quality. The inhale is smooth and on the bong is lightly fruity with a carbonated characteristic whereas the joint is also fruity but has more of a gassy undertone. The exhale on the bong is a musty floral sweet cream with a touch of dough, whereas the joint is also a sweet and musty floral, but has that gassy quality as well as a touch of fruit, and a distant creamy backing with a slightly hoppy aftertaste. Over the course of the joint, a notable freshness was present and intensified, becoming the dominant sensation by the time it was finished. Cross checking the flavor on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c there’s a light sweet floral with a minor skunky beer aftertaste. At 185c that light sweet floral gets more pronounced, yet has a piney lean, which rolls into an even more intense skunky beer aftertaste. 


The headchange comes on quickly with a cerebral tingle and a light headed lift. Shortly after smoking I was able to sluff off the weight of the day with ease. Turning on some music, I found myself finishing up chores with a pleasant sway, and entering a comfortable groove where I was no longer bothered by the length of my to do list. Over time there’s some pressure that settles in, but it’s not overwhelming to the point where it makes you take a seat or causes you to fall asleep, unless you were already remarkably tired. There’s also a spacey aspect to it, but the only thing that speaks to that is the absence of description of the effect in my notes. I found myself going back to this herb time and time again, and every one of those times I told myself “ok, time to get some solid headchange notes”, evidently failing that task nearly every round as they were much thinner than they are typically when going through the review process. 


All and all, I really enjoyed this batch of Fruity Pebbles and I’d have no problem picking them up again even if the appearance isn’t eye poppingly impressive, as the smoke and effects are definitely gratifying and on target. Great work on this one Blackleaf, it was awesome to finally get an introduction to your library, and I look forward to getting my hands on more of your work.

Chocolate Mints from Small Boutique Farms

Chocolate Mints from Small Boutique Farms via Greenwolf Bellflower on 5/29/2021 (shout out to The Highly Rated Show , @jr._96_ and @skeemxcream7 [on Instagram] for making it happen!). THC tested out to 34.252%. This was gifted to me but goes for $90 out the door at Greenwolf. When JR from The Highly Rated Show was in town he asked me what strain I was most interested in, at the time it was undoubtedly this batch of Chocolate Mints, so we popped over to Greenwolf Bellflower together and he generously gifted me this jar right off the shelf.


The surface of these semi dense christmas tree shaped buds is a cacophony of mint, lime, and sage greens with eggplant and byzantine accents, plentiful clusters of dark metallic tangerine pistils, and a profuse plastering of clear and egg cream colored triches stacked in every available space like homes in a Brazilian favela. 


The nose out of the jar is a medicine cabinet must, smelling like a mix of antiseptic and fresh bandaids, with a savory soy sauce like element underneath. Busting open a bud, that bandaid smell shifts into a warm pastry sweetness, with a deep minty musk filling out the backend. Breaking it down by hand, the buds feel just airy enough to make them hard to work with by hand, it’s something I come across somewhat often but it’s hard to describe, it feels like breaking down wet paper with how it sort of balls up on itself. After tearing it all to bits, the grinds come hard with that new band aid smell coupled with fresh mint kicking around in the background that when taken all together have this herbaceous healing quality to them, while my fingers themselves are coated in a minty savory must. I’ve never had this experience, but something about the smell flashes to mind images of being injured in the deep jungle and using the one roll of medical gauze I have in conjunction with some native natural herbs, in order to stem the pain and the bacterial infection just enough to make it back to civilization. 


The dry pull on the joint carries an herbaceous mustiness with a minty edge. The inhale is smooth, and has a light herbaceous floral mint on the joint, whereas on the bong it’s essentially the same but loses some of that herbaceousness. The exhale on the joint is a rich floral mint with a slightly soapy aftertaste and a distant lime like lilt, whereas the bong is more of a straight minty sweet floral must. Cross checking the flavors on my Ghost Vapes MV1, at 170c I get a slight cooling sensation on the way in, and a very minty exhale with a strong pine backing as the cool mint lingers for moments afterward. At 185c there’s also a light cooling sensation on the way in but the mint backs off just a little bit as that sweet floral gains traction and lingers for a couple moments as well. 


The headchange comes on quick with a stupefying smack. It’s the type of herb that makes you acknowledge exactly how high you are after smoking it. Toward the end of my joint walk really stupid phrases to describe the feeling started running through my head, “officially lit, loopity doopity, smacked to the max”, and many even stupider ones I’ve forgotten about by now. The point is I was feeling pretty damn awesome and having a good time to boot. Physically, my body felt both slightly heavier and floaty simultaneously, and there was a general looseness to my movements and my nose and cheeks felt particularly numb. Mentally there was this feel good energy that just had me stoked on everything. I was stoked to find food in my fridge, stoked to eat it, stoked there was a new episode of Rick and Morty I hadn’t seen yet; just overall feeling blessed to exist and interact with my surroundings. Over time the intensity of the smack faded but the effect remained with me for a surprising while. I remember sitting on the couch hours after I’d smoked and saying wow, I don’t really feel like I need another bowl at the moment, which is a rarity in the recreational market. 


Overall this batch of Chocolate Mints was some tasty long lasting smoke that’s worth trying at least once if you can get your hands on it. It might put a hurt on your wallet, but when it comes to the exorbitant ticket bracket, it’s placement there is well earned. Fantastic work on this one Small Boutique Farms, it definitely lived up to the hype, and I’m excited to get some more of your flavors in the rotation asap. 

Hawaiian Cookies from Farmer and the Felon

Hawaiian Cookies from Farmer and the Felon via CannaCraft direct on 4/16/2021. THC tested out to 20.58% THC (thanks to Jim Walsh for making it happen!). This was gifted to me but should be sub 30$ before tax. It’s been about a year since I last reviewed some Platinum OG smalls from Farmer and the Felon, so when I saw this jar in my Cannacraft 420 Giftbox, I stoked on the chance to check out another batch from this mission oriented budget brand. 


The surface of these bitsy spongy buds are a mix of pine, juniper and chartreuse with occasional hints of aubergine, sporadic pops of rusty copper pistils, and a fairly thick coating of butterscotch colored bird spike triches.  


The nose out of the jar is a sweet and sour fresh must with a rubber edge that hits me almost like a faint minty rubber cement. Busting open a bud the scent morphs into a sugar sweet mint pine with just a touch of that rubber cement quality kicking around in the background. Breaking it down by hand my fingers are left with a semi sweet mustiness on them, whereas the grinds themselves had a bit of a tamped down sweetness with a fuzzy chocolate leaning must behind it and a touch of mint pine freshness rounding it out, but overall it seemed less pungent when ground. 

The dry pull on the joint comes with a sweet fresh floral and a bit of lingering mint. The inhale is smooth and on the joint has a musty sweet perfume floral with a hint of freshness whereas the bong is more nondescript and comes with a vague light floral. On the exhale I get a sugar sweet floral with a touch of a sour musty undertone, as where the bong is a bit more vague and was a little hard to pin down, but essentially hits me with a shifty musty cream. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c I get a a minty cool sensation on the way in and on the way out it morphs in to a minority sweet chalky floral whereas at 185c its a light sweet floral. 


The headchange comes on quick and has a surprising thwap. It had me wrapped up cognitively as I occasionally stumbled on my words, and there was a complimentary element of paranoia that made me wonder if people knew I was high, which isn’t a thought I typically have when stoned and in public. While on my own I found myself spacing out regularly, I’d come up with an idea and began to approach it with determination when all of the sudden I’d find myself just staring at the floor for an unknown (albeit small) amount of time, completely lost in thought until I snapped to with an “oh yeah that’s, what I was doing” moment. Those moments came frequently as my mind jumped from topic to topic with uncontrollable zeal, clearing all short term memory cache in the process. I bounced back and forth between tasks and got caught up on my phone in between. Physically I felt a haze across my eyes, a gentle hand’s worth of weight on both shoulders, and a general rubberiness in my limbs. 


All and all, this batch may not be comprised of the prettiest buds, it’s not the best smelling herb around, but it’s got a really solid slap that threw me for a loop that I’d say is on par with some higher end batches I’ve had in the past. If you’re a bargain hunter that isn’t stuck on indoor, and you can find it at a rate you’re comfortable with, I’d say you really can’t go wrong with these Hawaiian Cookies. A nice smack at an affordable ticket with the added benefit of helping a good cause (@lastprisonerproject). Great job on this one Farmer and The Felon!

French Laundry from Kingston Royal

French Laundry from Kingston Royal via Eaze on 4/23/2021 (shout out to Jake at Eaze for making it happen!). THC tested out to 32.99%. This was gifted to me but goes for $65 pre-tax on Eaze. When Jake from Eaze hit me up and asked if there were any brands they had on deck I was interested in, I jumped on the site and Kingston Royal caught my eye (admittedly mostly on the ticket and a somewhat fancy looking jar), and since I’d never heard of the brand previously I was definitely on board to check them out. 


These slightly trident-esque buds are a mix of fern and forest greens contrasted against eggplant and byzantine purples, paired with tightly coiled veins of rusty bronze pistils, all of which are flocked in thick coat of goldenrod and crystal clear triches. 


The nose out of the jar is a sweet must with a faint grape lingering in the background. Busting open a bud, the grape brightens up and brings a sugar sweet quality into the mix as well, relegating that mustiness to the backend along with an echo of freshness. Breaking it down by hand, the grinds have a deep sweet candy like grape that reminds me of some old school Big League Chew, while on my fingers lingers notes of a more subdued grape with a much more pronounced must. 


Taking a dry pull on the joint I get an extremely muted grape candy with a fresh edge. The inhale was smooth initially but got a little harsh about a quarter of the way through the joint, and although it started with some decent bubblebum grape flavor, it quickly lost steam and reverted to a plain nondescript smoke. The inhale on the bong was also very nondescript and could be characterized as a light sweet floral at best. The exhale on the joint was a smokey floral with a very very distant chalky grape, whereas the bong had just a touch of sweet floral grape, but it too was fairly faint. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c there was an extremely faint mint and floral with a muted skunky beer aftertaste, whereas at 185c there was a mild sweet floral but again very muted and almost indetectable. 


The headchange comes on quickly and in a way that is best described with the use of the word “serviceable”. It works but it’s not particularly remarkable in any sort of way. I feel hazy headed and stoned but for some reason I was also constantly underwhelmed by the effects of this batch. Mentally I was present and had no issues focusing, and while it did help manage to quell some anxieties, there was just something flat and lackluster about the buzz. Physically there was a slight pressure on my body, an extra bit of weight in my shoulders, that over time managed to amplify to the point of eventual couchlock. If anything, the persistent quality that seemed most evident in regard to this batch was its ability to put me to sleep about an hour or so after smoking it. It’s such a strange state to be in, not exactly ripped, but just extremely sedated to the point I just couldn’t manage to keep my eyes open. 


All and all, while this batch looked great, it absolutely lost me on taste, smoke and effect. I can’t say I’d be excited to repeat the experience regardless of the ticket, and while some extremely sedative non-psychoactive smoke may be right up some folks alley, it’s not something I personally enjoy. Sorry Kingston Royal, this one just wasn’t it for me. 

Yellow Zushi from The Ten Co

Yellow Zushi from The Ten Co on 3/19/2021 (Huge shout out to @roldbyg for making it happen). No testing info available on this batch. This was gifted to me and I’m not exactly sure what it would go for in a shop if you could find it. I imagine it’d be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 pre-tax. It’s coming up on two years since I first reviewed a Ten Co strain (Blue Zushi) so when RoldbyG offered up this Yellow variant I was more than on board to check it out. 


The surface of these bulbous buds are a mix of sage, hunter and fern greens with occasional specks of midnight blue, complimented by bursts of rusty orange pistils, all of which is hazed over in a coat of parchment white triches. 

The nose out of the bag initially hit me with a wave of fruity candy, very much like Skittles, but also has a savory almost soy sauce-like quality lingering in the background.  Busting open a bud the citrus really opens up and brings an acidity with it. It’s been a while since I’ve had one but it’s very reminiscent of a Pamplemousse LaCroix with the flavoring kicked up just a notch. Breaking it down by hand was challenging as it was fairly squishy in nug form, but dense on being deconstructed, and it did not want to break down as easily as most of the herb I typically come across. There’s a bright sugary citrus that lingers on the fingertips while the grinds themselves have that amped up Pamplemousse LaCroix scent with a distant mint pine freshness in the background. 


A dry pull on the joint comes through with the grapefruit uptop but has a grungy edge and a fresh undertone that repped a little harder than it did in the grinds. The inhale is smooth, and on the joint has a subtle sweet freshness, whereas the bong had that sweetness as well but leaned more floral than fresh. The exhale from the joint is a sweet floral mustiness at first, but the Pomelo makes itself known although muted and has a touch of freshness underneath, whereas the bong is a lighter grapefruit with a fresh mint pine backing. Cross checking the flavors on my GhostVapes MV1, at 170c I get a sweet fresh floral with a hint of citrus and a pine that lingers momentarily, whereas at 185c I get a fresh sensation on the way in and on the way out it’s more of a light citrus floral. 


The headchange comes on quick and brings with it an immediate calm. With a single bowl the anxieties of the week that existed mere moments earlier completely vanished, washed away by a wave of chill soothing energy, the type that makes you want to take a seat and just start contemplating life. I was impressed with its staying power as it managed to last through a walk to the store and back to grab a last minute veggie for dinner. As I cooked it felt like I was on some sort of autopilot, present enough to navigate through an easy dish, but my mind constantly wandered from one topic to the next without me being fully cognizant of the fact. It stayed with me for an hour or so even after dinner, and it wasn’t until then I was able to muster enough power for a follow up bowl. I decided to spend a full day with it, starting with a wake and bake, and by about 11:30am I was scarfing down an early lunch followed by a 3 hour nap. I woke up again only to smoke more, and found myself ordering dinner even though it was really early and I wasn’t all that hungry, but the munchies had taken hold and I was fiending for a Bionico so I pulled the trigger on Uber Eats with priority delivery. 


All and all I really enjoyed this batch of Yellow Zushi, and while it may not win any bud beauty contests, the long lasting effects and fairly unique flavor make up for it in spades. I could definitely see myself copping this again if I found it at the right ticket. Great work once again Team Ten!
