Strawbinati from 3c Farms

Strawbinati from 3C Farms via @ogcannabiscafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 26.79%. (Shoutout to @Matt_3cfarms and @Hustlestrees for making it happen) This was gifted to me but it goes for $35 at 3C’s medical shop in DTLA . Strawbinati is another offering from 3C’s cleverly named conspiracy themed strain line up. These sprawling delicate buds are mix of chartreuse and lime with forest green accents, dark brownish red pistils and multitudes of tall yellowing triches that give the surface a hazy glow.

The nose out of the jar hit me like an old spice cabinet. It’s very musty and comes off like a mix of pepper, bay leaf, and a bit of oregano that’ve been sitting undisturbed for quite some time. When busting open a nug a sweet fruit emerges with a touch of mint pushing the mustiness to the background. Breaking it down by hand the strawberry scent makes itself known, it crumbles easily, and comes with a sweet fruit scent rounding out into a metallic musty finish. The dry pull on the joint is mostly a sugar sweet fruit with a touch of mint and herb. The inhale is smooth and on the joint I get a muted toasted marshmallow as where on the bong it’s nondescript mostly. The exhale from the joint and bong has a mild peppery spice with a hint of sweetness but I feel like it’s more muted on the later. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes, at 170 I get a sweet floral with pine and a touch of mint as where at 185c it’s mostly an earthy floral and at 200c it’s also floral but more generalized in the since that it just tastes like vaped weed. The headchange comes on quick but is a gentle thwack as opposed to solid smack. It’s fairly mild in effect but it has a strong motivation sapping factor that doesn’t make you feel like doing much outside of watching some youtube videos or maybe chatting it up with friends via Zoom. While it looks absolutely fantastic and is no doubt well cultivated I probably wouldn’t cop it again as it just wasn’t for me, however if you’re fan of Strawberry Cough or 3C’s Strawberry Fields I think you’ll like it and you should definitely give it a shot.

Miyagi-Do (sample) from Ball Family Farms

Miyagi-Do (sample) from Ball Family Farms received on 4/13/2020. No info on the jar but from what I’ve seen THC has tested out to about 27%. This sample was gifted to me but at the time of this writing it’s currently going for $42 out the door at Connected Belmont Shore. If you took all the conversations I had about my favorite strains of the past year you would find a single constant in everyone them, my love for Daniel Larusso from Ball Family Farms. So when they asked me to evaluate their new strain Miyagi-Do, I was so stoked I was on board and buckled in before they could finish printing the boarding pass. These dense buds are a stunning cacophony of rapidly shifting colors ranging from lime and forest greens to midnight blues and deep rich purples coupled with sporadic bunches of tightly wound copper pistils and a healthy army of yellowing triches with what I’m starting to call “that bird spike look”.

The nose out of the jar is a sweet musty spice with hints of mint cream and just a touch of lemon on the backend. On busting open a bud the sweetness and mint cream take centerstage and fight for the spotlight leaving no room for any other scents to make themselves known. When breaking it down by hand it leaves a pleasant resin on the fingers that smells of mint and pine. The grinds have that sweet mint cream in spades and the mint is so strong that it has a near eucalyptus quality that gives me minor Vic’s Vapor Rub vibes. The dry pull on the joint comes with a sweet mint cream coupled with fuel and has a creamy menthol aftertaste. The inhale is smooth and has a very fresh sensation on the joint where as the bong has more of a sweet hashy floral aspect to it. The exhale on the joint is a mix of sweet cream and hash with a eucalyptus like tang where the bong is more of a floral mint cream. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c you get a heavily floral and fresh experience, the best way to explain it is that it tastes like pinesol smells and is very intense at low temps, to the point it actually leaves a cool sensation on the tongue. The headchange comes on quick and with a healthy thwap that will leave you dazed. As soon as the smoke is leaving your mouth on the first hit you’ll feel your eyes glaze and some weight settle into your shoulders. As the effects creep in you’ll start to lose track of time, you’ll get lost in your thoughts and while things might be crystal clear in your mind, you struggle to find the right words as you realize that part of your cognition has been grappled into complete submission. Much like facing the wrath of Miyagi-Do in real life, this batch will leave wide eyed and slack jawed, unable to focus as your conscious is rocketed through a myriad of rapid fire vignettes created by your own mind only to snap back to reality on occasion with a cartoonish shake of the head before shortly losing touch once again. I absolutely loved this batch of Miyagi-Do and for the killer ticket it’s currently going for at Connected Belmont Shore I am fighting the urge to hop in my car right now to be there when they open to cop some more. This was yet another absolute banger from the awesome folks at Ball Family Farms, keep up the amazing work, I can’t wait to see what you guys put out next!

Jack Kraken from 3c Farms

Jack Kraken from 3c Farms via OG Cannabis Cafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 21.18%. (Shoutout to Matt at 3C Farms and Red Rodriguez for making it happen) This was gifted to me but it currently goes for $35 at 3C’s shop in Downtown LA. As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for a well grown Jack Herer, so I was stoked to see 3C’s mythologically named version of it in my sample pack. These airy gangly buds are mix of sea and army greens with pops of dark amber pistils and throngs of spindly white triches with massive dew-like heads.

The nose out of the jar is a brilliant well defined Jack. It’s very floral with a musty spice and hints of citrus. On busting open a bud that citrus moves to the foreground accompanied by a sugary sweetness pushing that floral musty spice to the back. It breaks down very easily by hand while leaving a sticky trich-film on the fingers. The grinds themselves give off strong floral citrus which hits me like the smell of a fresh picked bouquet placed on an old wooden table that’s been recently cleaned with lemon pledge. The dry pull on the joint has a fresh floral sweetness with a touch of spice. The inhale is smooth and has a sweet musty floral taste on both the joint and the bong but leans slightly more earthy on the latter. The exhale from the joint is a sweet floral with a citrus edge that taste like a muted lemon Skittle as where on the bong it has more of a skunky beer taste with just a hint of waxy chocolate. Cross checking the flavor on MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I got that familiar light sweet floral where at 185c it was essentially the same, but introduced a bit of that skunky beer element and at 200c, it had more of a sweet cereal taste with that skunky beer still being present on the backend. The headchange comes on quick and with a healthy thwap that leaves you feeling hazy eyed and a little spacey. You’ll be able to focus and get things done in a quiet environment but I found myself easily prone to distraction. It doesn’t have that  paranoid “caffeine” edge that I love in my sativas but that’s typical of Jack in general from my experience. It’s a fantastic wake and bake strain for days off when you don’t have much on your agenda outside of kicking back and playing video games or watching movies as it’ll keep you lifted without fear of putting you down for the count a couple hours later. All and all, this was a fantastic iteration of Jack Herer, and for the price it goes for at 3C’s medical shop in Downtown LA I’d scoop this one up again without hesitation. Excellent stuff once more by the folks at 3C Farms, keep up the great work!

Jack Herer from Good Flower

Jack Herer from Good Flower via The Spot Santa Ana on 3/11/2020. THC tested out to 18.68%. I purchased this for $1 but it typically goes for $25-35 on various menus and could be as cheap as $10 if you get it on the happy hour special at The Spot. Late last year I had some Super Silver Haze from Good Flower that wasn’t all that good, so they sent me a few samples in recompense and this Jack Herer, one of my favorite strains, happened to be amongst the bunch. These fluffy yet shrub like buds are a dusty fern green with marmalade orange pistils and a surprisingly formidable layer of tall white triches.

The nose out of the jar is mostly floral with a bit of fresh cut grass smell and a musty pepper filling out the back end. On busting open a bud there’s a sugar sweetness that emerges and joins that floral scent along with a touch of fruit while pushing that mustiness back just a bit. When breaking it down by hand it falls apart easily and leaves a triche dust on your fingers while the grinds give off a muted version of that classic spicy yet sweet floral Jack scent. The dry pull on the J is sweet floral with a potpourri twist that dissipates quickly. The inhale is smooth and has just a touch of pancake syrup sweetness on the joint where as the bong has a muffled floral quality. The exhale from the joint and bong is a very dull floral funk that hits me like a skunky beer with a touch of sweetness, truth be told though, it’s so faint it’s hard to pull apart. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial at 170c I got a vague mint floral taste, where as at 185c it was a sweeter floral mint that was slightly more pleasant, and at 200c it was a general “vaped weed” taste with a touch of a baked goods aftertaste. The headchange is fairly gentle and and gradually lifts you to a workable buzz. It’s not overwhelmingly strong but it’s not frustratingly weak (i.e. Purple Punch) to the point I’m mad at it for wasting my time. I’m able to work, focus, complete tasks at hand without any issue all the while being accompanied by a mild pleasant buzz that helps me get through the day. It’s very functional and meets the standard for what’s referred to in the tech sector as a “minimum viable product” as it’s just good enough to get the job done. Is it good flower? Hmm, yeah. Is it great flower? No, but it’s also not marketed that way. If I were able to pick this up on the happy hour ticket at The Spot I’d probably do it again but any more than that I’d most likely have to weigh my options.

Strawberry Fields from 3C Farms

Strawberry Fields from 3C Farms via OG Cannabis Cafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 22.05%. (Shoutout to Matt at 3C Farms and Red Roriguez at the Cannbis Cafe for making it happen) This sample was gifted to me but it goes for $35 at 3C Farms shop in DTLA. I used to love some good Strawberry Cough back in the day, it’s something you don’t see too often any more, so I was stoked to see one of it’s kids made its way into my 3C sample pack. These light and lanky buds are mostly a bright lime with forest and chartreuse accents, a substantial layer of shining white triches, with show stealing fiery orange pistils bursting out of the core looking like the tentacles of some Lovecraftian monster in a John Carpenter movie.

The nose out of the jar is primarily must with a faint fruit sweetness that reminds me of smelling the outside of a freshly picked underripe melon. On busting open a nug, that fruity sweetness shoots to the foreground and brings a minor fresh quality with it, pushing that mustiness out of the spotlight although it still remains present. When breaking it down by hand it crumbles easily and the fresh mint and pine element now dominates the scent profile with just hints of must and sweetness on the backend. The dry pull of the jay revealed a subtle sweet fruit that had a minor strawberry taste that reminded me of a crystal lite or zero calorie flavored water version of strawberry. The inhale was smooth, but really not too defined on the bong or the joint, it had a very muted sweet and floral taste but was mostly nondescript. The exhale on the joint gave off a subdued sweet fruit with an earthy and cilantro like soap finish, as where the bong had more of an herbaceous spice tint with a nearly imperceptible sweet floral finish. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes I noticed I got the strongest sensation at 170c which was mostly fresh floral with a distinctly piney aftertaste. As increased the temp it amped up the sweetness slightly but for the most part was a very general “vaped weed” taste. The headchange comes on quickly but doesn’t hit so hard that it leaves you in a daze, it’s more of a gentle smack that leaves you a little hazy eyed and dough faced. In that sense, it’s a good sativa as it doesn’t inhibit your ability to think nor get things done, but it does lack the jittery caffeine like edge that I crave in my wake and bake. That said, while I no doubt enjoyed my time with Strawberry Fields, if I had to choose between it and 3C’s Lime Sherbet on a repeat pick up I’d lean toward the latter solely based on the get up and go factor. All in all it’s self evident that it’s beautiful, expertly grown, and well cared for cannabis, but there just wasn’t anything particularly noteworthy about the experience that would have me jumping at the chance to cop more.

Gelatti from Ember Valley

Gelatti from Ember Valley via Los Angeles Farmers_ on 2/04/2020. THC tested out to 21.04%. Purchased for $25 out the door. I have heard a lot of great things about Gelatti so when I saw Los Angeles Farmers had it on the low shelf for a killer ticket I couldn’t help but jump in. These semi dense buds are an eye catching mix of moss and hunter greens with goldenrod pistils and a healthy layer of brilliant white triches.

The nose out of the jar is a sickly sweet fruit that strikes me like an overripe cantaloupe, it’s smells great frankly, but if a fruit actually smelled this way you might suspect it’s started to turn. On busting open a nug that sickly sweet fruit remains but there is a mix of mint and pine that emerges and relegates it to the background. When broken down by hand my fingers had a nice stick to them as the grinds came with that familiar “foreign fruit market” gelato smell coupled with a fresh backend that leans slightly more pine than mint. The dry pull on the joint reveals a candy sweetness that meshes with hints of fruit and mint pine to leave a muted sweet fresh aftertaste on the tongue. The inhale was smooth and had a touch of a sugar sweet taste of the joint where as the bong offered more of a minty floral zing. The exhale on both was a sweet grungy fruit but the bong had a slight mint tang that seemed absent from the joint smoking experience. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes at 170c I got a minty pine with sugar sweet fruit in the background where at 185c the pine element amped up to a degree where it tasted like a pleasant, safe to consume, form of Pinesol. At 200c the flavor was mostly floral with just a touch of pine so I’d say this one, as I’m finding with a lot of herb, should be enjoyed at lower temps when looking for the best flavor experience on a vape. The headchange comes on quick and with a healthy slap that’s a little bit of a trickster when it comes to the confidence you have in your own cognizance. At first I thought I was able to think clearly and accomplish tasks with little distraction, I really felt like I was getting things done, but when I started to touch base with reality the truth settled in. I realized that I would start a task, space out at some point during that task which would inspire me to begin a new task, only to come to the conclusion later that I hadn’t finished anything I’d started. In addition, I smoked about half of this batch and when I went to add to the notes I’d surely already started, I couldn’t find them. It turns out, I’d never started those notes like I usually do when I begin smoking on any batch for review, which I’d say only speaks further to the mental trickery of which this batch of Gelatti is capable. It’s as if it wraps your brain in a warm blanket of self affirmation, it tells you that you’re doing great and you should be proud of yourself, and even if you didn’t actually accomplish anything in the end you’ll still feel alright about it. This jar of Gelatti was fantastic, even though it was from the end of October, it held up very well and I’d have no issue picking it up again especially at the discounted rate that I got on it. Props to Ember Valley, excellent work on this one, I can’t wait to see what new heat you guys push out next.

Sasquatch Sap from 3C Farms

Sasquatch Sap from 3C Farms via OG Cannabis Cafe on 2/21/2020. THCa tested out to 22.91%. (Shoutout to Matt at 3C Farms and Red Rodriguez at the OG Cannabis Cafe for making it happen). This was gifted to me but on checking the menu at 3C/Coast to Coast in Downtown LA it’s only $35 for medical patients which is a great deal in my opinion. GG#4 is a modern classic that goes by a lot of names due to the legal challenges presented by using the Gorilla Glue monicker, so I thought it was clever of 3C to call their offering “Sasquatch Sap” in order to fit their established conspiratorial naming convention. These flat cedar looking buds are mostly a combination of dark lime and forest greens with the rare burst of light yet rich aubergine, twine colored pistils that streak sporadically across the surface, all of which are absolutely swarmed by white yellowing triches that cling and pile up on any and every available space they can. It’s as if a tsunami of trichomes had run across these buds and what we’re seeing in the pictures is what was left in it’s wake.

The nose out of the jar is a vibrant floral coupled with mint and pine and just a hint of musty chocolate. When busting open a nug the mint and pine scents become louder while the floral and chocolate stay present but are more muted in comparison. When breaking the nug down by hand the mint and pine stay center stage while keeping that floral in the background but giving that waxy chocolate smell just a little more of the spotlight. The dry pull on the jay has a floral sweet quality up top that morphs into a perfume like aftertaste. The inhale is smooth and has a light pancake syrup taste on the joint as where on the bong I got more of a musty floral zing. The exhale is very floral and perfume like on the joint where as the bong comes off lighter on the floral with that tootsie roll like chocolate taste making its presence known and a bit of a sour sensation that slaps the septum slightly on the way out. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial , at 170c it was floral with hint of mint, but when I turned it up to 185c mint and pine seemed to dominate the taste profile to the point I got “fresh sensation” on the inhale. Turning it up to 200c revealed a muted candy sweetness that was different yet less powerful than other temps. The headchange comes on quick and is not mentally debilitating in any way but puts enough pressure on the body to keep you planted on the couch. You feel that weight on your forehead at first and it makes its way down into your shoulders, and while you could fight it and complete any physical chores you have lined up, this is one of those motivation sapping herbs that makes it incredibly easy to say “fuck it, I’ll do it tomorrow” as you watch old How It’s Made videos on YouTube instead. I really enjoyed this batch of Sasquatch Sap and for the ticket it goes for at 3Cs medical shop in DTLA I’d pick it up again in a heartbeat. Great work once again to the awesome folks at 3C Farms!

Blu Gotti from The Backpack Boyz / 5 Points LA

Blu Gotti from The Backpack Boyz / 5 Points LA via The Cannon Co on 2/11/2020. No Testing info presented on the bag. This was gifted to me but I have seen it go for about 40-45$ an 8th in the traditional market. Last but not least in the awesome hat trick of strains found in my sample pack from The Cannon Co is Blu Gotti. These big boulderesque buds are a hodgepodge of lime, olive, and forest greens that occasionally dip into midnight blue, with tightly wound burnt auburn pistils, and a frosty layer of tiny yellowing triches.

The nose out of the bag is a sweet cream with a strong musty fruit that reminds me of Gelato’s signature “foreign fruit market” smell. When busting open a bud a sweet vanilla cream dominates the scent profile with a muted floral backend. It breaks down extremely well by hand and you get a sweet creamy floral smell that lingers on your fingers while the grinds are primarily a vanilla cream up front but has a complex candy sweet floral mint backdrop. The dry pull on the joint has a muted sweet fruit and cream with just a touch of floral. The inhale is smooth gives me toasted marshmallow vibes off the joint while the bong had more of a sugar mint tang. The exhale was a sugar sweet floral with a minty fruit backside from the joint while the bong was more of a fresh mint floral up top with a sweet cream finish. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 the tastiest draw was at 170c which was a powerful mix of pine and mint that zinged my tongue on both the in and exhale. As I raised the temp I noticed that minty pine dipped off and was replaced with more of a generic floral so I’d definitely recommend trying this one at low temps when vaping. The headchange comes on quick and with a healthy thwap that leaves you spacey and hazy eyed. Describing it to my fellow reviewers in a chat I noted that “it feels like when you do that arms up whole body stretch but for your brain”. It puts some weight on your body and you may find yourself lost in your own thoughts and unable to stay on task, so while I’d avoid this for a wake and bake I feel like it’s an awesome strain for any time you want to kick back and relax, especially if you don’t mind spending 10 minutes or so staring at the ceiling. For the ticket I’ve seen this go for at seshes I’d definitely be on board to cop some again. Excellent work to the Backpack Boyz, 5 Points LA and the Cannon Co once again. You guys are consistently putting out some high caliber herb and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

GSC from Curated Cannabis

GSC from Curated Cannabis on 3/4/2020. THC tested out to 26.09%. This was gifted to me but I’ve seen it on the menu for $300 an ounce at the Spot in Santa Ana. GSC is a modern classic so I was really excited to get my hands on the Curated cryo cured version of it. This is by far the most gorgeous GSC that I’ve ever laid eyes on. These beautiful buds are a light olive green with splashes of eggplant and boysenberry, peppered with burnt orange pistils, and frosted with a layer of pristinely preserved white triches which cause it to glow in natural light.

The nose out of the jar is primarily gassy with hints of must and a sugar sweetness. When breaking open a nug there’s a sugar sweet cream aspect that comes forward and pushes the mint and gas back just a bit. When busting it down by hand the scents combine into a sweet minty cream with that gas still kicking around on the backend. The dry pull of the joint had a very light sweet minty gas to it which lined up with the expectation I had after smelling it. The inhale was smooth from the joint and I got a very light mint where off the bong it had more of an earthy quality with just a hint of mint. The exhale on both had a muted floral mint taste. I will say there seems to be a slight learning curve to packing cones as the material is less dense than traditionally cured herb so I tended to smoke through this batch off the bong more often than not. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a floral tang with a slightly fresh quality at 170c which seemed to maintain well even at 200c but was most flavorful on the low temp. The headchange comes on quick and has a very healthy thwap that will leave you slightly dazed and spacing out at random. I found it difficult to stay focused even when having a conversation as my mind would just wander in and out of reality. While it was difficult to stay present it was a very enjoyable buzz that’ll have you feeling good and having a blast with physical chores if you have the energy. However, if you’re the least bit tired, this GSC will help you find your way to the couch and to Netflix for some old episodes of a show you’ve already watched as you potentially nap the day away. All in all, I really enjoyed this round with GSC and I could definitely see myself copping it again if I found it at the right ticket. Great work once more to the crew at Curated Cannabis!

Butter Pecan from Norcal Nemo

Butter Pecan from the one and only Norcal Nemo on 2/28/2020. Shoutout to mr.don_fuego for the assist and Gulf Coast Haze Collective for always scouting the most supreme firepower Cali has to offer! THC info not available at this time. I was gifted this sample but it’s very limited so it’s IYKYK status. Butter Pecan is another extremely limited release from Norcal Nemo and I feel tremendously privileged to get my hands on 1 of 11 jars floating around in California. This herb is so absolutely gorgeous that, when coupled with the unreal scent, it elicits a visceral reaction from deep within that’s difficult to put into words. The buds are a patchwork of light lime and dark forest greens but truth be told, it’s terrifically difficult to make out the nuances of color under the mass amount of tall snowy white pistils crowding every centimeter of available space, only giving way to flares of twine colored pistils wildly whipping through the surface like the tentacles of the monsters from Edge of Tomorrow.

The nose out of the jar is a delicious sweet nutty vanilla cream with a touch of fuel and must that really does smell very similar to a freshly opened pint of Butter Pecan ice cream. On breaking the bud, there’s a fresh minty element that takes center stage coupled with a floral perfume smell, but that sweet creamy nuttiness is still kicking around in the background. When busting it down by hand my incredibly sticky fingers had a smell that hit my nose like some fancy pancake syrup you might find at Trader Joe’s that’s been infused with Hibiscus for some reason, very sweet and floral, while the grinds keep pushing out that fresh mint with a nutty vanilla cream back end. The dry pull on the jay has a very sweet vanilla cream taste with just a bit of nuttiness in the background. The inhale is smooth and I get a toasted marshmallow off the joint, while the bong offers a fresh floral sensation up top, chased by that nutty vanilla cream. The exhale from the joint comes strong with that floral perfume quality while off the bong there’s sugar sweetness that dominates overall with some subtle nutty cream and hints of mint and gas. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial , the most flavorful experience came in on the low temp at 170c, which really brought a rich floral flavor with mint and pine. I tried it on both 185c and 200c and while the floral quality remained, it diminished as the temp raised, as where the mint and pine vanished completely. The headchange comes on quickly and with a warm fuzzy long lasting smack that wraps around your forehead and back of your eyes like a slap bracelet straight out of the 90’s. While I’m able to stay focused and hold conversations without issue, I feel a bit of that body pressure on my shoulders while my head feels light and floaty, and I get some ASMR tingles running down the top of my spine. I would say that I absolutely loved this batch of Butter Pecan but it goes beyond that. I find myself having a reverence for it, which frankly, extends to all of the herb that I’ve tried from Norcal Nemo. There’s a level of wizardry at work here which I’ve only been witness to a few times in my life and has my deepest respect. I may have tried to praise it properly in written form, however, it’s so outstanding it nearly defies earthly description and is the sort of weed that you remember for years to come. Exceedingly excellent work by Norcal Nemo, truly masterful, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
