Strawberry Kush Pop #10 from Poseidon Estate

Strawberry Kush Pop #10 from Poseidon Estate on 2/08/2020. THC tested out to 32.98%. This was gifted to me but it’s currently in shops in Central and Northern California for around $60. I’ve been following Poseidon Estate for a long while, but since they don’t currently have distribution in Southern California I haven’t been able to get my hands on any, until now that is. These fairly dense pine tree shaped buds are absolutely stunning. The surface is a patchwork of color that careens across the spectrum from a light lime green blasting all the way down to deep rich purples that are near entirely obscured by an abundance of tall golden triches and a smattering of pumpkin pie pistils.

The nose out of jar is a combination of musty spice and sweet fruit with a bit of fuel in the background. When busting open a bud that sweet fruity fuel takes center stage and has just a slight minty edge. When grinding it down by hand the scent kicks it up a notch and the sweet fruit and minty fuel become extremely pronounced with just a touch of dough in the background. It breaks down well where it doesn’t turn to powder straight away but crumbles easy enough that you can get it to the proper consistency for a joint. Speaking of, the dry pull revealed a freshness up top followed up by a sweet fruit. It’s very strong but seems to dissipate quickly. The inhale is smooth and on the joint has a sweet fruity zing while on the bong it’s a bit more muted with a touch of earthiness. The exhale of the j is very fruity with a bit of menthol and dough while on the bong it hit me more like a fruity soda as there’s the sugar sweet fruit aspect but there’s sort of carbonated water vibe I pick up on as well. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial it smacks the mouth with a mix of mint and pine that you can actually feel physically hitting your tongue and chilling it before you get a taste for it. The headchange comes on fast and has a healthy smack while putting some weight on your body but won’t cause you to suffer from broken cognition nor couch lock. It does have a slightly floaty head tingly feeling and caused me space out from time to time if I wasn’t focused on a particular task but I was able to snap out of it and put myself to work as needed. It might be a little too heavy for a wake and bake but it does have a very minor get up and go aspect that could compliment a strong cup of coffee well. I’d say it’s a fairly great anytime smoke for when you’re looking to get something that thwaps with feel good eurphoric type energy but won’t leave you brain dead or heavy eyed and passing out on the couch as you watch youtube videos. At least not right away, however, given some time it may get you there eventually. This was a fantastic introduction to the Poseidon Estate line up and really showcases the quality, expertise and obvious level of care that goes into getting these jars to market. If it were available in So Cal I’d have no problem grabbing this one again. Excellent work to the whole Poseidon Estate crew on this one!

Yummiez from High Season

Yummiez from High Season via High Season DTLA on 2/08/2020 (shoutout to Carlos for the assist). THC tested out to 23.65%. This was gifted to me but is currently listed on the High Season DTLA menu for $48.18 out the door. High Season got my attention at Secret Sesh with their Pound Cake, and in turn my review got their attention, which resulted in them blessing me with some of these Yummiez from their new Microbatch series. These small delicate buds are absolutely beautiful. The meat of the nug is a bright lime green with a copious amount of eggplant frosted tips, the occasional fiery orange pistil, and a coating of triches so thick it looks like they were slathered on and into every crevice with a mini trowel.

The nose out of the jar is floral and fresh with a sweet musty fruit and they’re all equally strong and battling for dominance. It sort of comes off like a muted candy perfume. When busting open a nug that fresh mint and pine element stays strong while the sugar sweetness and fruit are relegated to the background. When breaking it down by hand it powders out nicely, the sweetness turns back up and joins forces with the mint and pine and some additional floral notes, with a muted fruit in the background. It strikes me as a pleasant mix of winterfresh and pinesol. The dry pull on the jay is very minty with a touch of floral that slightly lingers on the tongue afterward. The inhale is smooth and has just a slight sweetness on both the joint and the bong but seemed more defined on the latter. The exhale is a muted fruity sweetness on the j but more of a sugar sweetness with a slight fuel background on the bong. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get an extremely minty and floral sensation, so much so that it actually had a cool peppermint feel on the inhale which was stronger than any flower I’ve tried on the vape yet. The headchange comes on quick and has a slightly sedative and spacey quality but doesn’t interfere with cognition to the point you’re unable to function. It’s got a euphoric aspect to it where I found myself in a positive mood, throwing on some music, and getting some things done I’d been putting off for a while. On a wake and bake it might be a little too heavy, but I found it be a very even keel experience as I wasn’t too locked up mentally or physically, but it definitely had a decent feel good thwap that stayed with me as I handled my day. I admit there’s a draw to the fact the batch is limited. Normally I’d say at the ticket it’s available for at High Season DTLA I’d have to see what else they have on offer to know if I’d cop it again, and I suppose that’s still true, but knowing it may never come back again definitely would hold weight in my decision. That said, if you like what you see and what I’ve said about Yummiez here, I’d get to High Season ASAP as who knows how much is left. It’s definitely some gorgeous flower and it’s got me interested to see what High Season’s next Microbatch has in store. Great work to the whole team at High Season!

Now and Laters from Ember Valley

Now and Laters from Ember Valley via Los Angeles Farmers on 2/04/2020. THC tested out to 20.53%. Purchased for $25 out the door. Ember Valley has an awesome line up but the ticket can be fairly steep, so when I saw LA Farmers had put about 9 flavors on their low shelf, I knew I had to get in on it. As a sativa head I’d been really curious about Now and Laters so I was stoked they still had some on deck by the time I arrived. These semi dense foxtail-ish nugs are very pleasing to the eye. The majority of coloring appears to be a deep rich purple with the remaining areas being a bright lime green and wisps of brownish orange pistils shooting off in all directions. Truth be told it’s hard to get an accurate read on these colors as there’s a massive amount of yellowed triches overwhelming every part of the surface and that makes it hard to see what’s going on beneath them.

The nose out of the jar is a very acrid smell up top, that same sort of electric “9-volt taste” smell that’s reminiscent of Blue Dream, but with a sweet fruit candy quality filling out background. When breaking open a bud the mustiness widens out and you get more of a feel for that fruit. When breaking it down by hand you’ll notice the mustiness dissipates completely and there’s a pleasant sharp sweet fruit scent that remains. When dry pulling the jay I pick up on a rich musty fruit with a slight floral edge. The inhale is smooth initially but fairly nondescript on both the bong and the joint. On the exhale from the joint I caught a bit of sweet apple flavor with some acrid earthiness but it’s all really muted and muddled, the bong didn’t really have a lot to offer in terms of flavor profile either. Toward the end of the joint the inhale started to feel a bit harsh and hard on the throat. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I got a generic floral freshness which sort of put a proper cherry on this extremely vague tasting experience. The headchange comes on fast and gives you a case of fuzzy forehead near immediately. It settles into the eyes and gives you a bit of a floaty feeling but is lacking the focus and caffeine like edge that I tend to look for in a sativa. In terms of effect it feels more like a hybrid to me and something that I’d probably use to wind down after work. It’s beautiful well cultivated flower that I was lucky to secure at an extremely discounted rate but there wasn’t anything about it in particular that stuck out to me about it to say I’d be a repeat buyer, especially at the full ticket. Sorry Ember Valley, while extremely photogenic, Now and Laters was a miss for me

DJ Blueberry from The Cure Company

DJ Blueberry from The Cure Company via City Compassionate Caregivers on 1/6/2020. THC tested out to 23.64%. This was gifted to me but it goes for $30 plus tax on the CCC menu when available. I have heard of DSB for years but I honestly can’t recall ever trying it so I was stoked to see this DJ Blueberry made it’s way into my sample pack. These fluffy buds are a camouflage patchwork of lime and forest greens with the occasional rash of aubergine, brownish orange pistils, and a healthy layer of white and yellowing triches.

The nose out of the jar is a deep mustiness with a slightly fruity back end but in a muted not so sweet way. Busting open a nug the mustiness still prevails but there is a bit of a spicy element that makes itself known. When breaking it down by hand the mustiness widens out a bit and gives way that subtle fruit but also bringing a touch of sweetness with it. It’s smells sweet in the way the rind of an apple is sweet as opposed to apple juice sweet. When dry pulling the j I do get a sweet berry flavor with a musty background which ends up leaving a sweet rind taste on the tongue for just a moment. The inhale is smooth but fairly nondescript on both the joint and the bong. The exhale has a faint sweet berry taste with a musty backend. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I got a surprisingly floral and fresh sensation with a bit of a sweet fruity aftertaste. The headchange comes on gently and is more of a body buzz than a cerebral smack. On a wake and bake, while dressed and ready for the gym I took an “on the way out the door hit” that left me feeling a bit stuck to the couch. It nearly sapped all my motivation to do anything and even thought I fought through it, I felt extremely tired all day. With it’s more body centric effect, I found myself smoking multiple bowls in hopes of catching that heady feeling but overtime just feeling like I needed to take a nap. It’s definitely a heavy indica in that sense but it won’t leave you braindead on the way to sleep. If you’re looking for something that won’t inebriate you too much while helping you get to bed I’d say this one is for you. It’s a quality grown flower at a bargain for the ticket it goes for at CCC so if you like what you’ve read I’d say you should definitely check it out.

Animal Face from Fig Farms

Animal Face from Fig Farms via Connected Santa Ana on 1/31/2020. THC tested out to 25.21%. Purchased for $65 out the door minus 20% for happy hour. I’ve heard some fantastic things about Fig Farms, so when I saw Connected Santa Ana had a good amount of their library on deck I decided to swing through and see what’s good. I ended up walking away with this beautiful jar of Animal Face. These semi dense nugs are comprised of mostly of sage and olive greens with sporadic pops of lime, the occasional appearance of stout creme orange pistils, and an impressive showing of yellowing spiky triches that certain angles remind me of those strips they put on building ledges to keep birds from landing on them and shitting everywhere.

The nose out of the jar is a musty rubber with a hint of cream and a lightly fruity backend. On busting open a bud the sweetness moves to the foreground and that musty rubber widens out into a fuel in the background. When breaking it down by hand there’s a sweet mint and pine that emerges and takes center stage with the creaminess returning to the fill out the background while the mustiness seems to have vanished completely. When dry pulling the joint I get a sweet minty floral fuel that seems to linger slightly on the lips. The inhale is smooth and has an earthy hash like taste from the joint while being a much more “fresh” mint and pine experience on the bong. The exhale from the joint is a floral sweet rubber with a cilantro/soap like aftertaste, while that soapiness seems to come out up top on the bong, widening out into more of an earthy after effect. Cross checking the flavors on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get an intensely rich freshness. It comes off as mint and pine all the way and leaves a pleasant “cleaner” like sensation to linger on the tongue. The headchange comes on fast but is misleading in the sense that you don’t feel as lit as you actually are. At first I thought “This is a very functional effect and I’m clear headed and capable of any task” but then I started to notice little things that I was doing that said otherwise. I made a series of small mistakes of which I was completely unaware, and on realizing what I’d done, it made me shake my head and do a double-take. It was only then I realized how buzzed I was and that the effect was still on the climb. This one is definitely a creeper. My eyes felt low while my head simultaneously felt floaty. It puts a good amount of pressure on the neck and shoulders and gives you those near ASMR tingles in the back of the neck. This belongs in the class of what I call “hydraulic press” weed as it starts with a good amount of power and continues to push until you’re completely smashed. That said, on a wake and bake I didn’t find myself tired in the least, just feeling that very healthy thwap. I really enjoyed this batch of Animal Face, and while I might personally wrestle with the ticket at Connected, if you’re able to find it at a rate you’re comfortable with I’d say you can’t go wrong with swooping this one up. This was a fantastic introduction to the Fig Farms library and I really can’t wait to get more familiar with their line up. It’s apparent this batch of Animal Face was expertly cultivated and handled with the utmost care from harvest to jar and it shows in every aspect of the final product. Excellent work by the whole Fig Farms crew!

Gelato from THC Design

Gelato from THC Design via Eaze on 12/30/2019. THC tested out to 20.6%. Purchased for $39 plus tax (used a $20 credit compliments of Eaze as well). On occasion, Eaze will drop some credit into your account if you haven’t used them for a bit, so when that happened this last time I decided to put it toward this batch of Gelato from the fine folks at THC Design. When it arrived I was a bit shocked to see that it had a harvest date of 1/28/19. Being so close to it’s first birthday I decided to do a little experiment and held off on opening it until it was officially one year old and see how it faired after being jarred that long. The surface of these particular nugs are comprised mostly of deep purple and forest green with them shifting back and forth so quickly it’s fairly confusing to the naked eye. It has a generally dark vibe with lime green accents and sporadic bunches of orange pistils all coated in a thick layer of yellowed triches.

The nose out of the jar is mostly musty with just a slightly sweet edge in the background. When breaking open a bud, the mustiness dissipates somewhat, and the sweetness amps up along with a minor floral quality. After breaking it down by hand the scent morphed and I got a faint yet pleasant sweet mint with a bit of cream. Also, it really wasn’t as powder dry as I expected it to be. That said, I did end up finding a seed in one of the buds. One seed in a batch of this size is no big deal, and could be a potential come up for the right person so I don’t mind it being in there, but in the interest of full disclosure I thought I should mention it. When dry pulling the J I get a very faint floral sweetness that vanishes near instantly with no aftertaste. The inhale was smooth and had a slight earthy taste from the joint but on the bong it was very nondescript. The exhale was a muted floral and mint on both. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I got a much more amped up version of the floral and mint that was present in the smoke but the flavors seemed to be fuller. I think vaping may be the way to go when it comes to weed of this age. The headchange seemed to make me feel more tired than gobsmacked, I felt like I could have smoked more in any given sesh but didn’t want to due to the fact I thought it would knock me out. I have a feeling the lack of thwap may have to do with its age and if I would have gotten my hands on this batch sometime in mid-2019 it might have had a more enjoyable effect but that simply was not the case here in 2020. Furthermore, while I know Eaze is having financial troubles, they need to implement a process to keep people from paying the full ticket to get bud this old. From what I can tell, THC Design put out an awesome batch of Gelato in it’s heyday, however the ravages of time had their way with it before it got to me. This lesson learned here is not to use recreational delivery services as I’d rather verify the age and quality of the bud I’m picking up prior to putting down on it.

The Soap from Minntz

The Soap from Minntz via Cookies Maywood on 1/22/2020. THC tested out to 29.98%. Picked up for $60 plus tax (minus 20% happy hour discount). The Soap is the latest strain to ride the hype train, so when I found myself cruising through East LA at the start of Cookies Maywood happy hour, I decided to stop in and cop a batch for review. Truth be told the look of these buds are very disappointing. Two boulder-like nugs comprised the entirety of the bag, the have zero squeeze. to the touch, and frankly they feel like pre-prop 64 PGR weed. The surface is a patch work of lime and forest greens with deep purples, the occasional brownish red pistil, and a decent frosting of triches that seem slightly off to the naked eye. When you zoom in it looks like they may have been treated some what roughly, looking like someone took a micro weed whacker to the outside, as it appears there are many headless trichome stalks.

The nose out of the bag is minty with some sweet milky vanilla and cereal notes. On busting open one of the buds the nose is essentially the same yet a little louder but you can see how the inner trichomes look much better than those on the surface. Breaking it down by hand the smell seems to dissipate some and while I get hints of sweet mint and berry and a bit of cream but it’s all hard to pin down as none of it is very pronounced. When dry pulling the jay I unexpectedly get a light butter cookie taste with a vague mint zing. The inhale was smooth as first but got a little harsh toward the end of the joint. I didn’t notice any harshness when using the bong. Flavorwise I picked up on a sweet vanilla cream with a mint edge that really left a menthol like effect on the tongue while on the bong I got more of a sweet floral taste with just a hint of mint. The exhale does have this cilantro like taste which I’d say can have a soap-ish vibe so in that sense the name makes sense. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a minty fresh experience with a very soap-like aftertaste also harkening back to its namesake. The headchange itself comes on quick with a nice thwap and puts a pressure behind the eyes as well as a slight weight on the body. It doesn’t have me tied to the couch exactly and while definitely quite hazy I’m not cognitively stunted and feel capable of taking on any given task that I’d be able to accomplish normally. That said, the effect is really nothing to write home about and I can’t see myself running to the store to grab more at the present ticket. What’s worth noting is that this batch looks nothing like the batches of the Soap that I’ve seen others get on Instagram. If I didn’t pick this up from Cookies directly I’d wonder if I got the real deal. In any case, despite having a decent smack, I can’t say it’s worth the ticket even with the happy hour discount. I really wanted to like it but I don’t see any qualities that bare a repeat, sorry Minntz, this one was a miss for me.

Gelato from The Cure Company

Gelato from The Cure Company via City Compassionate Caregivers on 1/6/2020. THC tested out to 21.60%. This sample was gifted to me but it’s currently on sale for $25 as part of a Cure Co mix and match sample pack at CCC. Most of the flavors coming out of The Cure Company are very unique, yet Gelato has become some what of modern classic in the current cannabis landscape, so I was very curious as to their take on this very popular strain. The look of these dense yet delicate buds is intense. A deep aubergine caught my eye at first but on closer examination I noticed numerous light and dark green patches that are essentially obscured by its thick armor of triches and sporadic bursts of fiery orange pistils.

The nose out of the jar has a sugary sweetness with a bit of a creamy edge and a fresh minty element hanging around the background. On busting open a bud that sweetness amps up a bit and brings a fruitiness with it while the mint steps up as well and starts to battle for dominance. When breaking the nug down by hand the scents merge into a beautiful sweet mint cream that harkens back to its namesake and reminds me of the Mint Monster from Afters. On the dry pull from the joint I get a sugar sweetness with a touch of mint up top followed by a floral quality that lingers on the tongue for a moment. The inhale from both the bong and j is smooth and has a sweet floral taste, while on the exhale, I get more of a delicious minty cream with a floral back end. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get a sweet floral mint with a fairly long lasting menthol aftertaste. The headchange comes on quick with a nice thwap but also creeps into you body in a short amount of time. I was surprised at how sedated I felt a few minutes after smoking. It hit me so hard that even on a wake and bake I found myself wanting to go back to sleep an hour later. You feel it in your forehead at first but as it makes its way into your muscles you’ll feel that gravity hold you down and your want to do anything of consequence floats away. I’d definitely save this one for when you’re ready to kick back and end your day. It will take the edge off quick and if you’re any sort of tired it’ll have you knocked out before you’ve even realized what happened. This was an excellent version of Gelato, and for the ticket it goes for at CCC I’d pick this up again without hesitation, especially if I wanted something keep me seated or knock me out. Excellent work once again to the fine folks at The Cure Company!

Creme de la Creme from Team Elite Genetics

Creme de la Creme from Team Elite Genetics via Super Clinik on 1/15/2020 sponsored by the Smokeliveapp. THC tested out to 23.8%. Picked up for $55 plus tax. I had a fantastic experience with Team Elite’s Nova Cane so when Smokeliveapp sent me some dough to pick up anything I wanted, I decided to go with this Creme De La Creme as it was one of their non-jack smelling variants, and it was recommended by the Super Clinik budtender over the TEG Cookie Dough. The look of these dense buds is absolutely stunning. The surface is mostly a yellowish green, dipping into solid green at times with occasional hints of purple, with cream orange pistils and a beautiful shimmering layer of triches that seems to have been preserved with the utmost care from harvest to packing.

The nose out of the jar is mostly musty with a minor electric metal zing that smells like what licking a 9 volt battery tastes like. On busting open a bud the mustiness lightens up a bit, and a fresh element makes its presence known, with just a slight touch of sweet vanilla in the background. When breaking the bud down by hand a surprisingly strong mint floral scent steps up to the foreground while a sweet vanilla dough smell fills out the backend. On a dry pull from the jay I detect very faint sweet floral mint notes. The inhale is smooth but I really don’t get much flavor off either the bong nor the joint. The exhale from both has a very faint “fake” vanilla taste to me, sort of how I’d imagine eating a vanilla candle might taste, kind of floral and perfume like as opposed to something flavored with vanilla extract. It also had a slight burnt pie crust flavor in the background but it all felt sort of muddled and nothing was too distinct taste-wise. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from Ghost Vapes the taste was mostly floral with some sugar sweet notes and just a hint of vanilla in the background. The headchange does come on fairly quick but it’s not too overwhelming. You definitely feel that weight on your body but it’s not something that left me unable to function. The box describes the potential effects as “body-melting relaxation and sedation. Hard hitting, heavy, drowsy and sleepy” but in my experience, it really didn’t hit that hard at all. I felt it in my body some, and there’s a decent pressure on the eyes and forehead, but it didn’t hold me back from pulling off my morning routine on a wake and bake whatsoever. Admittedly there were moments that I found myself sighing and wanting to kick back and just lay still for a minute but those were brief and few and far between. This batch definitely has jar appeal but that’s pretty much the only aspect of note, the smell and the effects just aren’t there, and for the ticket I can’t really find any qualities that bear repeating a pick up. Sorry Team Elite, this one was a miss for me.

Sweet Thang from The Cure Company

Sweet Thang from The Cure Company via City Compassionate Caregivers on 1/6/2020. THC tested out to 28.06%. This sample was gifted to me but it goes for $30-35 plus tax on the CCC Menu typically. When I was at Secret Sesh back in December, Sweet Thang got my attention on name alone, so I was stoked to find it in my sample pack. Huge shoutout once again to @freshpen23 for making it happen! These semi dense nugs are mostly a light lime green with forest green lilts, orange cream pistils and a plentiful coating of shimmering triches.

The nose out of the jar is a deep musty fruit accompanied by a fresh minty floral element that lingers in the background along with hints of pine. On busting open a bud, the pine rushes to the foreground and brings with it this powerful cleaner-esque scent that gives it a fume like quality while pushing that sweet fruit and floral smell back a bit. When breaking it down by hand you get a good sense of stickiness from the bud. A fresh sweet fruit emerges to take center stage aided by a hint of mint giving the scent a gushers and gum like vibe. When dry pulling the jay I pick up on a very unique sweet and rich smokey fruit taste that lingers on the tongue for a moment. While the inhale was smooth it was surprisingly nondescript for taste on both the joint and the bong but on the latter I noticed a slightly acidic zing. On the exhale, I pick up on a sweet fresh fruit that widens out into a smokey finish from the joint, while on the bong it’s a much more floral experience that morphs into an unfrosted fruit danish aftertaste. Cross checking the flavor on my MV1 from @ghostvapesofficial I get extremely floral notes with a cool minty finish. The headchange comes on quick and has a nice thwap but doesn’t leave you incapacitated by any means. I started leaning on it as my go to wake and bake as I was out of sativas and Sweet Thang served as a fantastic substitute. It has a Swiss Army Knife like utility in the sense that it will function well in a variety of uses whether it’s writing your next screen play, going out on hike, busting through a few rounds of multiplayer in Call of Duty, or just kicking back and watching a movie. It’s great for pretty much every use except for putting you to sleep, but if you smoke enough, I’m sure it could do that for you too. For the ticket it goes for at CCC I can see myself picking this up again with little hesitation. Excellent work once again to the crew down at Cure Company!
